🌲Blue spruce is a large conifer which is native to the Rocky Mountains in Western United States and can grow up to 200ft tall in nature.
🌲The Colorado Blue Spruce creates a dense, broad. Conical crown and distinctly blue-green, rigid, needle-like foliage. The tree colour can vary from dark green through all shades of blue-green to powder white blue. The tree thrives outdoors and likes as much sun as possible.
🌲The Blue Spruce is a very popular choice for Bonsai, but is also a popular🎄 Christmas tree in several parts of the World.
🌲Germination instructions
🔷Before germinate seeds we need to break the dormancy and increase the likelihood of germination with cold stratification.
🔷Soak the seeds in warm water for a 24bto 48 hour period
🔷Put the seeds in a dump paper towel, put them in a ziplock bag and put it in the fridge for a 4 weeks.

Unfortunately,My blue spruce seedlings died because I left them outdoors in the dry season. But I hope to order the seeds again and grow them.Then I can continue my video series🙂

How long does it take to germinate after planting? I planted Japanese black pine and blue spruce at the same time. The pine have come up but the spruce haven't.

May I ask you a question? My seeds are in stratification, It has been a month since I put them in stratification and I do not see any seeds that have germinated. (prior to that I did the scarification soaking them in water for 24-48 hrs). Based on your experience ¿Should I plant them like this or I must wait for them to germinate in the fridge? It's been a month already. This are my first ones and I can't get any more seeds.

Blue spruce seeds do not sprout during stratification.Try planting a few seeds and if they sprout, plant all the seeds.Make sure your Growing media is sterilized.Otherwise the seeds will rot.I personally use a 1: 1 mixture of well washed and sterilized cocopeat and sand. I hope your seeds will germinate.🌲

@@Kalana_Herath Thank you so much for your fast and kind reply. I fell in love with the blue spruce from the first time I saw it. Just have peatmoss at hand, sow 1 seed, will try to get cocopeat and sand. As soon as I notice germination will come back to reply. Thank you again. pd. I live in a subtropical country, where there are spruce trees, so the climate or the height are not a problem. (We only have one here, abies guatemalensis, the only one with natural Christmas scent).

I have started Blue Spruce from seed in april. I have 63 of them and are all in their own pots and are about a inch or two in height. They are under a grow light 18 hours a day indoor. How long do I have grow them before transplanting outdoors?

I grew those plants indoors for about a month. Then I had them outdoors for about two months and unfortunately they died due to the high temperature in our area(in sri lanka).I hope to oder new seeds back and grow them again.

@@Kalana_Herath Here in Guatemala the national institute of wooden/forest areas recommend to have the spruce *with shade* for the first 3 years. (that fabric that provide shade 50% up to 90% used on plant nurseries)

They died because you took them out like that, they start dying if you introduce them to new soil like that

The plants continued to grow for another two or three months after re-potting. But we got very hot weather. And the tropical warm climate is a completely different environment for blue spruce. I think that's why the plants died.
