It’s funny I came across you video today. About a year ago I put in a 4X10 foot raised bed and I picked up 20+ strawberries plants on clearance in the fall. I planted them all everything came up over winter they look good but what a pain in the Butt. I don’t get to enjoy any of the fruit if it’s not the rabies it’s the birds if not the birds it’s something else getting to them before me. So I rabbit proofed them then bird prof them not it’s a pain in the Butt to try and get to them. And now the bees have a hard time getting to them. It’s cheaper and more convenient to just buy them at the grocery store. I’ve decided to dig them out and put that garden bed to better use next year. My time invested in to the garden needs something to show for at the end of the day I’m not doing this to feed the wildlife lol lol lol.

I live in South Florida on the Treasure Coast. I'm wondering if I should plant my butternut squash now or wait until we're approaching Spring. Do they like to grow in cooler weather or warmer? Thanks for the info!!

Butternut is a winter squash and will not like the hot summer in Florida, In South Florida plant winter squash anytime between August and March. Squash plants will not survive a freeze, if you do get one. I’d start them indoors in late Dec and plant them out in mid Jan.

If you have specific questions just ask. I should have mentioned grow at 1 per 4 square feet, and amend the soil with compost prior to fertilizing. Butternut squash is typically ready to harvest when the skin has turned a deep, rich color and is hard to the touch. The stem attached to the squash should also be dry and brown. This usually occurs in late summer to early fall, around 80 to 100 days after planting. It’s a good idea to leave the squash on the vine as long as possible to allow it to fully mature and develop its sweetness.
