I just harvested a few ears to check and they are perfect! Super sweet! Grew the peaches and cream strain. Definitely heavy fed with good soil and Dr. Earth’s Chicken Soup For The Soil liquid fertilizer. Once every 2 weeks I did. Medium size cons. Would have probably been bigger if fed every week.

HEY, @SauceySav!!! I need all your tips. Sometimes, I get corn, and sometimes I dont. I think the corn should be larger now. I hope I can get some nice size corn. How far apart did you plant them. Next year, I may go 6 inches apart.
@SauceySav4085 ай бұрын
@@GrowSomethingTasty I have a small plot with not a lot of space so they were i thinned them out to only 2-3 inches apart. Corn can actually grow well close as long as you thin them out and remove and side shoots. I live in zone 9a Northern California in San Jose. Before it was Silicon Valley it was Yerba Buena (good herb) named by the Spanish settlers. You can grow almost anything well here. So I don’t take too much credit lol. It more Mother Nature’s blessings 🙏🏾 lol

I just harvested some I grew silver n gold hybrid n man it's so sweet, first time growing sweet corn it's already chucked blanched n in the freezer.

I'm gonna try peaches n cream next year
@SauceySav4085 ай бұрын
@@tre9563 I also grew that strain! I started them off indoors and transplanted them, which i quickly learned corn doesn’t like lol! Most of them died off but a few stalks lived. The ones that did took waaayyy longer to mature then the peaches and cream. I definitely recommend that strain because it’s easy to grow and matures in 90 days. I actually just sowed a 2nd round of seeds ☺️

Thanks so much for this video on growing corn, Bear. I’ve been wasting seeds and my time. Growing two different corns in the same bed next to each other. That’s why my cobs look like a jack-o-lantern’s mouth!!
@GrowSomethingTasty5 ай бұрын
HEY Lynn!!! You are welcome. I need to stay on my corn because sometimes I don't get corn either. I know I need to fertilize again, I hope I get to it soon. I have been fertilizing with liquid fertilizer, though. I hope the next time you grow corn you get a nice harvest free of jack-o-lantern's mouth!!!

Also, don’t for get to eat that corn silk! It’s super nutritious and delicious. When you shuck the corn, take some of the fresh silk and chew it 😊 you can also put it on top of salads.

HEY SauceySav, thanks for the info. I did not know you could do that. Do you do that?

@@GrowSomethingTasty yes sir! I do that when harvesting. But you can keep it in the fridge and use it on salads and what not 😊

How do you protect your corn form ants. I tried growing corn this year and had to cut them down due to ants.
@dexterthomas12655 ай бұрын
For ants use either borax and honey or borax and maple syrup in a container shielded from rain/water with small holes on the sides. It will kill the entire colony
@1abshiga5 ай бұрын
I mix baking soda and powered sugar in equal parts. Works very well.

A very told me that they use cinnamon to keep ants out of the garden. I told them that I would try it. I have a few small ant beds in that raised bed. They are not messing with the corn, at least not yet.
