Your cosmos look like marigold’s leaves. My cosmos’ leaves are really thin and fern-like. I sowed seeds in early spring and they are 4 feet tall now with pink flowers. I think the variety is called Seashell. Very pretty.

I’ve never seen such a compact variety of cosmos. This variety has a smaller daintier bloom and less ferny foliage than varieties I’ve seen. Time to hit the seed catalogue.

So this plant is called cosmos . I had one it grew taller than me inmy backyard ,it was planted on the soil directly and it grew to 6.5 feet

Is it compulsory to use compost for every plant? Can't we add fertilizer after planting?

Compost feed the soil by creating a nice environment for all the good bacteria in your soil or pots and in turn feed the plants over a period of time, while fertiliser feed mostly the plant for a short period of time. If you use only fertiliser it's not going to grow as good, that's why you have to use a combination of Compost and fertiliser. But it all depends on the type of soil you are planting. If pots then definitely use a combination of compost, fertiliser and potting mix.

There are lots of options. Pick something that drains well and 99% of the time you're good. For plants like cosmos you don't need fertiliser, it'll do fine even in less rich soil. Not all plants like super rich soil
