Many viewers of this video likely reside outside tropical regions. Here are a few tips for growing and maintaining the curry leaf plant if you're not in the tropics or Florida: 1. Opt for a spacious pot and line the bottom with small rocks. Choose a quality indoor bush plant potting mix over vegetable potting mix. 2. During the initial weeks after germination, place the plant outdoors for approximately 8 hours of sunlight. 3. Once the plant reaches around 2 feet in height, it can be exposed to direct sunlight throughout spring and summer. 4. If the temperature falls below 55°F, bring the plant indoors and position it near a window, supplementing with a UV Growth light. 5. Avoid leaving the plant outdoors in temperatures colder than 55°F, as this could lead to leaf loss and the eventual demise of the plant. Residing in Iowa, where winters can be chilly, I only keep my curry leaf plant outdoors from the latter part of spring through the entire summer. The plant is promptly brought indoors at the first sign of temperatures dipping below 60°F, given the rapid and unpredictable drops in temperature characteristic of this region. I employ two types of UV lights to enhance its growth. Typically, I fertilize the soil with a nitrogen-rich fertilizer once a month and water the plant every two weeks when it's indoors, and as needed when it's outdoors.

I have 2 plants that are over 10 years old. Surprisingly it is the first time the plants have flowered. The 2 parent plants already have produced many baby plants which are growing in the same pot & are healthy. The berries are still green in color so I have to wait until they are ripe and mature to harvest. I didn’t know that the seeds need to be removed from the pods before planting. Thank you very much. Your video was very informative and will help me when I am going to do it next summer.

Nice video! My tree produced a bundle of seeds on one branch. One turned black, and it disappeared overnight. (Birds?) Several are red, and I'd like to try to germinate them. But it is now mid-October, which can't be a great time for planting. Any advice? I live in Israel. Thanks!

Are you in India? what kind of climate is best suited for curry plant?
@Benjamin_topno
@Benjamin_topno 2 жыл бұрын
The optimum temperature requirement is 26° to 37°C. The main season of availability of curry leaf fruits is July - August. With in 3 - 4 days of collection of fruits, the seeds should be pulped and sown in nursery beds or poly bags. One year old seedlings are suitable for planting.

You didn't say which one germinated better... the entire fruit, or the seed, with the skin removed? Just curious ... 1. What was your germination rate? 80%? 2 Did you transfer each sappling to a larger pot, or in the ground? How tall the ones potted in the container grow? We live in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States, and cannot leave the tropical and subtropical plants outside during winter months. Hence, need to know the height and the pot size. 3. Is there any difference between the Indian and the Sti Lankan Curry Leaves. I received two unmarked packages from a supplier. One set of seeds are green, the other black. No identifications which one is which. In your demonstration, the fruit or berry were black, and the seeds were green. Mine are dry. Therefore, I am soaking them on water before planting. Is there anything else I should do? Awaiting your response. Thank you for your time.

He did cover the seeds. Preferably remove the outer layer easier to germinate. No difference in seeds the black is fully ripe and the green not. Should still work. Good luck 😉

@@emilygoudie8493 I planted both. One germinated ... scraggly, though... but the other one didn't. While we were away, an unexpected storm blew away the tags in my seedling trays. Alas! I wouldn't know which one I have. I reckon, the black, ripe ones.
@emilygoudie8493

The seed germinated better and rather quickly. 100 per cent germination. I planted it at the end of autumn, did not expect such good results. It is now winter and no further growth, I was not expecting it. No, difference between Sri Lankan & Indian. I will transfer into another pot. Tip when you harvest the leaves do not just pluck single fronds, you have to cut the entire branch. In that way the bush will not grow taller.

Rajyashree, just plant your seeds in summer and just let it germinate, you will have lots of plants, transfer to a pot till it gets bigger. When you are satisfied that they are growing well plant it in the ground.

@d.lynncarmichael9240

Put it in a sunny window until warm enough outside; curry leaf plant thrives outdoors in the sun. It should start to produce leaves in May; should thrive and grow all summer. Curry leaf plant can lose many or all of its leaves in winter when it's in its rest phase. I'm a Canadian living in Silicon Valley CA; my potted 12-year-old curry-leaf tree is 2.5 feet tall with lots of branches and leaves. It has two clusters of dark berries that need to be harvested for the seeds soon -- it's early October. Such a beautiful plant; purchased as a small seedling from an Indian market. 🌿🌿 *I hope your curry leaf plant revived over summer, June!
