I've grown several different varieties of both hard & soft neck garlic for many years & have a huge crop growing there at the moment but late September this year I wondered if it would grow happily in pots at home. Wow! It was planted in individual transparent pots, it's in a sheltered spot but does get rain. The stem growth is longer & thicker than the outdoor crop, so I will always be growing some at home now. My postman said 'Is that Garlic! How silly, I've never thought of doing that!' Thanks for the video.
@TheRipeTomatoFarms4 жыл бұрын
So awesome Sara! I'm seriously debating not planting it in outside beds next year. I just want to use my 4-foot herb planters, vertical style in the greenhouse, than haul them out in the spring. No longer have dedicated bed space to Garlic...we'll see. I'll likely trial it for 2 more winters to get a real sense of what's possible. All the best!

Hey, thanks for that. If space-challenged, you could also look at container Garlic. Hardneck varieties grow great in grow bags or large pots!

@@TheRipeTomatoFarms thanks. Much appreciated. Will be looking more into it. The reason for the hard neck varieties is the medicinal use. Porcelian garlic has the highest levels of alliin in their makeup, and thats one of the chief components in the medicinal benefits. Once it interacts with air. Appreciate the info greatly.

I live in the tropics and we plant our garlic by just sticking them in the soil anytime of the year and ensuring they get enough sun (at least 4 hours of morning sun daily is fine). I recently tried rooting newly purchased garlic in a glass of water and it took three weeks to grow roots, a stem and a couple of leaves. Just sharing my experience. Happy planting everyone! :)

Yup, those would be the softneck varieties of Garlic. That won't work with the italian or hardneck kinds.
