How do you dry such a big object out? I have seen other people say they have to put in the oven, but it’s to big

how to use a button mushroom to grow a lot of mycelium roots at home?
@sPGgwUxYrSd7Cf5H2 жыл бұрын
Just curious, once you sterilize/bake the product, can you get it wet without it breaking down or growing? Can you work it almost like piece of foam or wood (mainly cut it for a more perfect surface)? I definitely see mycelium structures even replacing a lot of structures of common house hold things. For example, your couch might not be completely made from mycelium but the frame and base are. The possibilities seem endless... This stuff is especially cool when you consider that this is all carbon sequestration. Furthermore is a way we can add carbon to our soils.

Hey do you guys know any reference to check out for what species of fungi are best to grow various qualities/properties in building materials... Like what species will be best for growing a thin leather, or what should I use to make bricks, etc. (properties like softness vs. brittleness, etc.)? Great video btw!

David Jacobik I would like to know that as well! 🌎🌻✊🏽

Likely Lingzhi, it's used for hard and soft materials. I'm guessing the soft materials have less substrate and more mycelium which makes them more flexible. In hard materials, the mycelium acts more like a glue to hold the substrate together.
@ghz243 жыл бұрын
@@namAehT It could be but I don't think reishi does anything in a week. I think I heard some car companies were using some kind of oyster mushroom to grow parts. I thought reishi would be stronger but it's probably more about time than durability.

Great project! Out of curiosity, why use alcohol for the gloves but hydrogen peroxide for the fabric when sterilizing?
@MrApokalipse6663 жыл бұрын
Alcohol is toxic for mushrooms but dont destroy the gloves, hydrogen peroxide breakes down to oxygen and water during the sterilizing process so it will not harm the mycelium but it could make the gloves brittle.

1:11 what is that white pouder? Is it dried mycelium in order to incubate the substrate? I would be happy about an answer!
@roidroid5 жыл бұрын
probably a mixture of flour (for the fungus to eat) & fungus spawn (mushroom spores or powdered mycelium).
@AutoNomades2 жыл бұрын
@@roidroid Not sure they use spores for this tech, as it is quite slow and hazardous (contamination risks..) to grow from slow. It needs also sterilisation also if i remember well

@rcethervaac5393 жыл бұрын
you didn't get it. it's inert after that, it is "baked" (as in oven baked) and it kills the active mycelium. It never grows again, it's like cardboard when finished (it will look fluffy but it wont be that fluffy)

The word you are looking for is disinfest. The substrate is dead so can't be infected. Sterilize is OK, too, although surface sterilization is difficult to assess.
