Haskap berries are also known as honeyberries. These delicious berries are surprisingly easy to grow, especially compared to their more well-known cousin the blueberry. Today, I wanted to talk a bit more about propagating haskap berries and how to take haskap berry cuttings!
Do you want to learn more about how to grow haskap berries, blueberries, strawberries and much more at home? Make sure to subscribe to my channel for more helpful tips on growing fruits and berries, vegetables andflowers at home. I have plenty of videos about how to succeed with your raspberry plants, blueberry bushes and fruit trees.
Or, read my garden blog at sarabackmo.com where I tell you all about my Swedish kitchen garden and how to become self-sufficient in vegetables. I go through everything from mulching to starting new beds, garden layout and garden ideas, organic fertilizer, hydroponic gardening, starting a cottage garden and much more!

When did you take your cuttings? After the fruit was picked or while the fruit was ripening? What was your success rate doing your cuttings this way?

Oh thanks. We only have two bushes but got lots of berries until last year when a type of folding leaf caterpiller found our plants. They the birds ate the rest!. This year I used a bacterium called thuringiensis and it controlled the caterpillers. I'm going to start more plants as you suggested so we can also feed the birds! Cheers from Northen Ontario.

We have 12 Haskapp shrubs and really enjoy them. They can be tart but are nutritionally superior to blueberries and are SO easy to grow(unlike the blueberries i have tried to grow many times over). I want to propagate some for my brother and so I really appreciate your beautiful video! Thank you.

I have been told that basically hilling the base of a honeyberry much like one would do to a potato is a good way to propegate more since honeyberries tend to have low branches.

Hope I’m not too late for this season for you man but you’ll need another one or a different species to pollinate it for fruit. Good luck!

Thanks so much. I’ve tried four times so far and only had one plant grow roots. I’m going to try again, thanks to your video. Can I ask a few questions please. Do you need to cut the stems in a specific way? How wet do you keep the cuttings? Why do you put them along the edges of the pot? Do you use rooting hormone? Thanks again. I really want to master this skill.

When they are planted next to the edge of the pot, there is better drainage so they don't get waterlogged and die off. As long as they are kept moist enough! You should cut just below a leaf node, and remove the lower leaves.

What varieties are they? They have to be cross-pollinated with a variety that has the same bloom time or you won't get fruit.
