@@GardeningInCanada I am leggy 🦵 in the winter too. I find that laying under my grow lights in winter helps me with SAD. Crazy. But my dad said it’s ok to be crazy as long as your happy. If you could question 🙋‍♀️. How dangerous are indoor grow to human and pet eyes? Do I need sunblock ? Should I handout sunglasses when guest come over? 😎 People seem to think that because LED light look 👀 white or even warm that they won’t hurt you. Other than a grow tent ⛺️ what might you suggest? Going to get happy now 🌞 💡 🪴 in my phototropisme 😂

For anybody out there with a desk lamp kicking around unused, you can pick up an LED grow light bulb at Canadian Tire starting at $5.49 it's their NOMA brand. That was my first grow light, still using it. It's not going to grow a tomato plant but will definitely benefit for this purpose. I must have missed a segment about this 'cracky method' so I will have to search it up to understand what I'm doing. Thanks, Ashley! Edit: I see it's the 'Kratky Method', now my concern is about the nutrients to put in the water, which apparently is really important.

One of my goals this winter is to have indoor herbs and lettuce in addition to my micro greens. I brought in parsley, basil and chocolate mint in the fall and they are doing ok in dirt. I haven’t tried lettuce yet. Thanks for the tips about not buying head lettuce seed. Please do more of these indoor winter gardening videos. I don’t have instagram, so any follow-ups on KZbin are appreciated, too. Thanks!

I brought in chocolate mint last year, took about a good month + to stop dying off and start growing again, then it had no issues at all outgrowing the hanging basket and with trails down to the floor. In an unheated porch, morning sun, east facing window.

Basel and Pepermint grow nice on my window, I have a 3 year old pepermint plant in my window I trim it often and repot once a year. I use a rectangle pot 2.5 gallons the large amount of dirt helps the plant to not dry out if I forget to water it, my plants in small pots often die from lack of moisture. try over winter your pepper plants on window sill, dig up mature plants in fall repot with new dirt aggressivly trim branches and remove all big leaves treat the stick plant for pests and put in the window sill and replant outdoors in spring after last frost, beware of pests so trim lots and treat with neem oil / soap mix when bring them indoors as fall season is ending. you must treat for pests even if no signs are there, bringing pests indoors is a disaster, be proactive and if you find pests immediatly quarentine or destroy the plant to save all the other plants no mercy,

Never knew it was called the cracky method. Did I hear that right? Learn something new every day! I'll go with small soil pots. I'll have to get creative, both with window ledge and wire shelving with grow lights, because my male cat is a climber and a plant eater. It'll take heavy duty infrastructure to do indoor gardening with him around. Maybe prison bars on the windows, and a chain link dog run cage (with top) for the shelving. He keeps me on my toes. My sweet little Luna is happy just to watch me. I appreciate you naming the plants that can grow on ledges. Thanks Ashley!

Wonderful!! Would love to hear how to have successful sprouts- what temperature do we need? Mine tend to get moldy before I can use them. Also, what is the soil amendment to add to potting soil to grow indoors? Can I use one of the spinning towers with soil indoors if near a southern window? We are 30 miles from the BC Canada border- really appreciate your channel!

As an exception, I 'managed' to grow a tomatoplant inside during fall/winter. It was at 52.3 N latitude. Only available light was from a floor to ceiling window. Ok, i even did get some tomatoes (small yellow) after handpollinating, but i would not say it was worth it. (Used kratky).Managed to successfully grow lettuce inside as far north as 60 degrees latitude, on a window sil. (For reference: that's latitude of St Petersburg or Fort Smith NWT). Herbs like Thyme easily overwinter/grow inside at 52.3 N

I've taken the plastic containers I had left over from buying cookies at my grocery store deli, cut the tops off and placed plants in solo cups in those on a window ledge. By cutting drainage slits in the cups and I could then water the plants though subirrigation. I just had to refill it every few days to a week. I managed to grow garlic this way, but living in Florida I was unable to get it to bulb. I still want to revisit trying to get garlic bulbs this way using a different type of garlic.

I would like to learn more from you about growing indoor with lights. I currently grow indoor and I am interested in knowing about the timing of switching from veg to bloom, what plants would need this and the effects of switching from 18 hours of light down to 12 hours of light if I have plants that dont need the switch to produce in the same tent.
