I have been growing mushrooms in my kitchen, here is a free tip: you can grow easily Ostreatus on straw or hard wood pellets without going through sterilization process, which makes things much easier. However, following the same process, I had contaminations when trying to grow shiitaki and lion's mane (contamination appeared in 80% of my buckets, and 0% contamination when growing Ostreatus). Shiitaki and lion's mane revealed to be more sensitive and do require to sterilize the substrat.

Thank you for the great info in this video! We've started growing lion's mane here this year, and we've been using buckets instead of bags. We've had a lot of success with buckets. One thing I would absolutely suggest if you use a bucket is to cut the wire handle off before the fruiting body gets too big, otherwise the mushroom with grow overtop of the handle. Otherwise, it's too easy to get good results.

It's also nice having all the example photos and videos. Do you ever re-use spent mycelium from a grow bag/bucket? Maybe in something like an outdoor garden bed. It's not clear to me yet from research if the mycelium itself gets old or if it's just out of food after a few flushes and would otherwise be good to start the process anew.

Do you sell the mushroom grow kits? Just started learning about the benefits of mushrooms, it's very interesting. Thanks for all the videos, very informational.

Great video. However, I had a question on the fruiting blocks in this video. You mention the amounts of fuel pellets, bran and water per 5 lb bag but you don't mention how much spawn is added to each 5 lb bag. I would appreciate if you could supply that information.

Thank you Tony. I've watched this video several times and I think I am ready to try to grow Lion's Mane mushrooms. We have a local supplier of blocks here so I'm going to do it the 'easy way'. 😉

As far as cooking lion's mane: I've found that trying to slice it up, cooking it in oil, and then adding it to a Swiss melt or French dip is absolutely delicious
