I have been growing mushrooms in my kitchen, here is a free tip: you can grow easily Ostreatus on straw or hard wood pellets without going through sterilization process, which makes things much easier. However, following the same process, I had contaminations when trying to grow shiitaki and lion's mane (contamination appeared in 80% of my buckets, and 0% contamination when growing Ostreatus). Shiitaki and lion's mane revealed to be more sensitive and do require to sterilize the substrat.

Thank you for the great info in this video! We've started growing lion's mane here this year, and we've been using buckets instead of bags. We've had a lot of success with buckets. One thing I would absolutely suggest if you use a bucket is to cut the wire handle off before the fruiting body gets too big, otherwise the mushroom with grow overtop of the handle. Otherwise, it's too easy to get good results.

I’m just starting my mushroom knowledge journey. Where do you buy lion’s mane liquid culture in Canada? It was easy to buy 1kg of fresh lions mane online in South Korea, but I haven’t seen any supermarket so far that sells them - That’s why I’m here! Just repatriated. Are there clubs or courses you can take to learn more about this stuff, and say proper lab techniques?

Obviously your lions mane, or caffeine is kicking in. 😊. If you can slow your speaking pace a little it would help viewers comprehension level. I've come to believe that if someone is familiar with a topic then learning at a fast pace is easy. If unfamiliar, then a slower pace works better for some as it allows one to think through the material. Please try a little slower pace? 👍👍

3:22 when you guys say "hardwood sawdust"... After a lot of googling I realized it needs to be in pellets actually. And then, how do you ensure that pellets are free of chemicals, when all I see on a market are sold as BBQ fuel, so they are certainly not food grade and not tested for food safety. Have you solved that somehow or do you assume all those chemicals do not transfer to a plant?

After harvesting do I have to rehidrate the bag? and if so how would you do that? With other mushrooms I follow a guide which says that you soak the substrate in water and leave it for 12 hours, then rinse it and put into fruiting conditions. This works 100% of the times but I am not sure with lions mane

Great job with this video. Impressed by your ability to convey information by speaking clearly and quickly. I normally have to speed up videos like this. It's also nice having all the example photos and videos. Do you ever re-use spent mycelium from a grow bag/bucket? Maybe in something like an outdoor garden bed. It's not clear to me yet from research if the mycelium itself gets old or if it's just out of food after a few flushes and would otherwise be good to start the process anew.

Thank you Tony. I've watched this video several times and I think I am ready to try to grow Lion's Mane mushrooms. We have a local supplier of blocks here so I'm going to do it the 'easy way'. 😉
