Many called 'loofah' are man made and can be purchased for a lower cost. When a popular item really takes off, it's not uncommon for baby boomers to afix the name of the most popular brand to every item of the sort. For example, calling all vacuum cleaners 'hoovers'. Some might be loofah, but it'll usually be the dearer ones. :)

I love the smell of loofah flowers. It is one of the best when you have many plants the fragrance in the evening is nice. We eat them in soups and stir fry which is sweet and has a slight crunch. I have the ones with the ridges.

Chines wisteria is invasive. If you still want to try wisteria I would go for the less invasive species. PS. We had a wisteria and it was the most beautiful bush you could think of but it was too close to the well and we cut it down two or three years ago, we are still cutting sprouts from where it was.

In my Indian household, we only use this as a loofa. Even my great grandfathers used them. And the fruit is delicious to eat as well. My favourite is to have them fried in chickpea flour batter. Yum yum. 😋

Luffa gourd is perfectly edible when young. Also, you can cut open a branch and use a bottle to slowly collect juice coming out of the cut opening - it is probably the best facial toner you can have!

In the Phillipines we call luffa as patola it is known as a vegetable in our country, we usually eat this veggie and sometimes we use to stir fry it with other veggies or make a soup together with other veggies

Cooked it has the texture of a melon, but with a not-sweet cucumber kind of taste. I think they use a lot of tasty spices and oils to make it yummy.

I moved to Puerto Rico 26 years ago and there was life growing wild up the hill from my house. One of my husband's uncle bought it to me and I used it as gifts for my family at Christmas. I haven't seen it anymore but would love to try it again. Thank you for sharing.

I love cook loufa soup with peeled shrimps chopped, amaranth leaves chopped and some leaves of hot pepper ... Good smelt and good taste , we eat soup with rice.... Flowers can add to soup or stir fry with peeled shrimps , too .

The tender fruit can be cooked with meat. It's delicious. U can make soup. U can cook it as a vegetable and season it. It has lot of fiber and very healthy food.

Since there are plenty . You can try an easy recipe . Saute an onion and some chilles , add young loufa (NENUA) Cook untill all natural liquid is reduced add salt and turmeric cook for a minute or two. And done

I use to use loofa when i was a kid. This video brought back those memories of all the process from peeling it when its dry with my friends and sisters and then happily using it thinking we got something useful at free of cost. It was easy to find this plant in the surrounding back then. After watching this video, i want to grow my own loofa plant too. Tnx for this video😊

I don't know how many times I have said this but I have to say it again every time I watch your video. I really like your garden! I wish I could have the same but not much of my space is getting good amount of sunlight and it is going to cost me a lot to do all the soil amendment, levering etc.-and it is not easily available as well. My family is planning to build a house, I hope I can therefore plan my dream garden from scratch. Grow bag it is then for now. =D

I would love to take out the driveway, but where do we put our car, LOL. Grow bags are fine!! I do it all the time. Yes, you are right. A sponge is an animal from the sea. They just call loofa a sponge because it can be used the same way. Sponge became a catchall word for anything used to scrub something.

I grew a loofah plant and got about 15 loofahs from 1 plant. I live in the very sunny desert though. I have enough seeds to last a lifetime and I still have loofahs in my kitchen and bathroom 3 years later. It was a pain to remove once it turned yellow... it was HUGE. Now I grow grapes which I find more satisfying!

question: what do you do when the vine becomes dead? do you just cut it off or what?

Yes, it is a cucumber plant. Same thing happens, when it's done producing it dries up and you pull it out. Definitely an annual.

My mom grew loofahs. I think she got the seeds from one of her Master gardener members. It grew up the pine tree and all over. HAAH We were stunned. I can't wait to grow it at my house. Great Vid
