How to grow lotus from seed for beginners, fast and easy

This is the best instructions I have found. Those asking when to plant depends on outdoor weather, but plant in spring. Change water daily while getting them to sprout and about every 3 days after. If outside just have water run into the pot to over flowing just don't get the dirt if there is any in the bottom from stirring. You can insert smaller pots into a large one which make it easier with the dirt.

Put a charcoal in the water, it will prevent from mold and rit and you won’t need to change the water everyday. You’re welcome ;)

Nobody. The seeds just sat around until temperature fluctuations and water permeation did the job of weakening the seed until a sprout could grow. That’s how lotuses survived the Jurassic extinction.

Seeds will still germinate when they're not cut or filed. It just takes longer in that case, upto a year. In natural environment, Lotus seeds usually sit on the floor under water for upto a year, that's how long it takes for the water to slowly weaken the hard coat of the seeds and penetrate to the core. Once water gets in, germination starts. Commercial farming of Lotus or growing lotus in personal gardens usually require seeds that are cut or filed so that the germination happen as quick as within 48 hours of soaking the seeds...instead of taking a whole year.

Trying to pour out the water can be difficult as it sloshes and with my plants, they slide around in the pot. Some have even fallen out. Someone suggested a syphon like what you would use to clean fish tanks.

I bought some lotus seeds online and they didn't give any directions except to put the seeds in water and leave them there. I change the water because it looks murky and I thought that isn't very healthy for plants to grow in. I have my seeds in water growing in my kitchen on the counter with a grow light on. I had no idea that they have to be planted in mud. Our dirt in our yard is clay so I don't think that will work, I guess I will have to come up with an alternate plan??

Large lotus varieties usually flower in the second year. But small lotus varieties flower after 35 to 50 days of planting from seed.

Summer season is best for lotus..you can plant them in spring and summer. It needs lot of sunlight and flowers in spring and summer. The plant don't flower in winter and yes it don't need drainage hole
