Extremely popular in Poland and Eastern Europe, connected with folklore and harvest season, and for decoration around homes. My mum gave me few times plenty of seeds, none of them grow them here ( Scotland) and I never seen them here at all. I hoping to try one more time perhaps in more sunny area. Beautiful little plants!

Thanks for watching, I’m so pleased that you found it informative. Remember that strawflower seeds need light to germinate! If your compost is kept damp they should germinate fine. Maybe try a new packet of seed next time in case they weren’t viable. Good luck 🌼

Great video, thanks for all your work producing it. I like the idea of growing it for beneficial insects, but those seeds give me dandelion nightmares. Does it self -seed much around your plot?
@homegrowngarden4 жыл бұрын
Hey Bev, thank you for watching! It's the first time I have grown it on my allotment but I previously grew it where I work. I'm not giving the plants much of a chance to self seed at the moment because I'm cutting them so regularly but even if they did self seed (which they did at work) they only really popped up where they grew before and didn't seem to spread anywhere else. It's highly unlikely that they would ever become a nuisance plant, if they do pop up where you don't want them they're easy enough to pull out, unlike dandelions. Hope this helps!
