Turmeric is so expensive where I live so I bought a small piece from whole foods and I've been growing it every since. I want to say it runs about $20-30 a pound. The piece that I got was about $7. It was smaller than the palm of my hand, maybe even the size of my thumb. It's grown into a beautiful plant now and has a bunch of roots.

Can you replant the bulb part (the piece at the end that you broke off tubers from) with all the fibrous roots attached. Will that part grow more tubers? Or is it best to plant a new tuber?

Hello Ganesh, Hare Kṛṣṇa! No need to start in a small pot, but it helps if you have little space. Doesn't make much of a difference if you start where its going to grow normally, I just put a lot of leaves on top as mulch so that other weeds don't grow. Yes, can be done indoors, but does need sunlight.

The weather has to be hot, that's when it sprouts. Over here, it happens in May. If its not sprouting, no need to worry, the root can remain alive until the conditions are favorable. Does the ground freeze where you are?

Hi, ohh snow and frost. So, yes, definitely take it indoors during those times, the sprouting time has probably passed already, we are too close to winter now. You can try putting one piece of root inside a plastic bag with a little wet paper to simulate underground and see what the root is doing. Hare Kṛṣṇa!
