What do you mean cut it back to the crown? I have looked up this term with no results. We have three main stems. They have been flourishing for 3 years, then an unfortunate wind storm has killed quite a few branches. We are using magnolia trees for a trellis. It's been working like a charm until the storm. I can't reach the top of the trees but try to keep the dead branches pruned off the best I can. I am in Southwest Florida, my neighbors love the passion fruit. So do the squirrels, unfortunately. I don't mind sharing but they have figured out the ripe ones are the best. Thank you for this awesome video.

My favourite fruit. I've just planted a Nellie Kelly, I think the most common backyard variety. I know it's late summer but I found a great place for it on my property and just HAD to plant it. Coincidentally it's a full moon. I wonder if that will make any difference...

Funnily enough, my 2-3 year old passionfruit started flowering since lunar new year. Maybe its the full moon, or maybe its the rain.
@user-fr4hw5ky5d4 жыл бұрын
lunar new year is ''the first/ the head of the month'', that's when there's a new moon ''mid month, the 15th day'' on the lunar calendar is when there's a full moon, hence the mid-autumn festival---where people would look at &appreciate the full moon, and celebrate their bontiful harvest

If I had my time again (in my garden) I'd plant in large pots (or bags) so the root system is restricted. They throw up rootstock type of useless growths all over the place which need removing, so the roots must travel a fair way.

@@nelsontan8328 I had the same problem with my first passionfruit. Lots of flowers, but no fruit. The flowers kept dropping off. Discovered that I needed to hand pollinate it with a paint brush and then I got fruit. It was a black seed grown variety from Bunnings. I eventually got sick of hand pollinating and pulled it out. I have 2 healthy plants of Passiflora caerulea ("blue passionflower") here in Texas. They have beautiful blooms, but no fruit - even after 2 years. Any advice in regards to fertilizing? I pick off the Gulf Fritillary larvae and eliminate them manually. The plants are growing in clay soil with little possibility of "good drainage", so I am working with what I have. Of course, it is Spring here.
@one.arizona.garden5 жыл бұрын
Ryan, I have noticed that the blues passion will fruit it is cross pollinated with a different variety.
@easygrows26995 жыл бұрын
Passiflora Caerulea does make fruit, but its taste is awful, if at all unedible. It makes a small orange peeled fruit, with bright red flesh inside which tastes horrible(ive tasted it). Its actually a Passionflower rather than a Passionfruit. You have to handpollinate the 3 pistils, then you will get fruit. But i would advise you to plant Passiflora Edulis forma Edulis, or forma Flavicarpa, or Purple Possum variety.
@JA2389795 жыл бұрын
@@easygrows2699 Thank you!! I was suspecting that Passiflora Edulis would be better. Now I see that Passiflora ligularis (Granadilla) is what I really wanted. It produces delicious fruit. I would not grow P. caerulea in the future.
