Make your sax sound like gravel, give it a filthy, dirty sound with this ultra clear tutorial on how to growl. We will discuss how not to do it, why we do it how we do it and when. It's not difficult it's just a knack and in this video I do my very best to explain it for you.

@@lyndenblades I tried the growl and did manage to get a few good sounds, especially on the lower notes. Not great in the high ones, but practice makes perfect. Thanks

Not a chance. I can’t blow and engage the vocal cords at the same time. I’m on tenor so I want to growl on a high Bb with the tenor. Its impossible . ☹@@lyndenblades

@@BassNSax628 Hi! It might seem like it now but it definitely can be done if you keep trying. Practice on a middle G with no octave key, it takes time, determination and patience but you’ll definitely get it if you keep going. Watch the tutorial again, practice blowing without the sax and slightly engaging the vocal chords. You can do it my friend, I believe in you, I know you can do it, you just haven’t done it yet. Keep trying 🤝🤝🎷🎷 and let me know what happens 🎷🎷

Lynden, I think the problem is my embouchure. At the moment I’m pushing down too much on the top of the mp. I think I have to change my embouchure to more like a goldfish pout. This won’t be easy to change a 20 year habit. I’ve noticed when I use the new embouchure, I can play the Bb harmonic overtones which I can’t do with the old embouchure. This could change everything. It will take me a while to practice this. Longtone and Overtone exercises but I’m hoping it will allow me to growl , play the harmonics and eventually altissimo. @@lyndenblades

Defo try it, thanks . Also, can I ask your opinion on vintage or new ? I'm going to get my first tenor soon. A decent budget from a reputable dealer . What's your thoughts? Thank you. .

Hi Ricky and thanks for your message. Vintage or new. I should make a video about it! Vintage can be a great investment, a treat to own and sound amazing but could need work doing when you buy second hand. New is safer, but there’s immediate depreciation. It’s a tough call. For me personally it’s vintage every time, a Selmer of some sort preferably, like a Mark 6 or 7. There’s a good dealer called Pete Marriot at UK horns. He’s a good guy to ask. Mention my name if you call him. Does this help?
