I’m a traffic engineer in southern Brazil, our national roadway code says the chevrons or ‘Marcadores de Alinhamento’ should be black with a yellow background if permanent or with an orange background if temporary. I had no idea these inverted chevron signs existed in the northeast.

About the language: the ~ on the letters is called "til", similar to how you say 'til on english. It is used to indicate the nasality on the vowel. The Ç its called C Cedilha, or Cedilla. Worldwide is a mark used to indicate a different pronunciation, but in Portuguese we only use it on the letter C. The C has sound of /s/ if followed by the vowels /e/ or /i/. If the word spelling does have the C sounding like S, and its NOT followed by e or i, we use the Ç. Example: In the word MACA (stretcher), C does not have the sound of S, sounding just like Canada, for example. But if you have to spell like an S, you have to use the Ç, like in MAÇÃ (Apple). You would spell maçã just like in the word saint. (But obviously with the last A nasalated 👃

Since you mentioned the curb, I'll tell you the definitive tip. Places where there are "no parking" signs (A letter "E" with one or two crossed lines) and garage entrances, the curbs are yellow, while places where parking is allowed, they are white. In other words, a place where parking is prohibited with a yellow curb, and then a parking permit sign (just the letter "E") and a white curb, is probably Brazil.

You would pronounce João Pessoa like J (not muted J, more like George), oão more like the same as São in Sao paulo (make sure to pronounce de "O'', not just JAO) and Pessoa you pronounced it correctly on your first attempt, as opposite of pronouncing PESSAO on your second attempt. If in doubt on how to sai AÇAÍ, you can just spell AKAI (the musical workstation) and change the K for the double s. You will be spelling so much better doing this, but to make it complete, you need to give more emphasis to the "í", like the second a would fading out and shortly after you come with a stronger i. Então é melhor que plantem soja e gerem dinheiro pras pessoas do interior que viver em um mundo de fantasias fingindo que não existe ninguém no interior e só tem bichinhos e matinho.
@jonnyso123 күн бұрын
