Today I started consistently landing foiling gybes thanks to this video! Thank you! I kept thinking "creepy back foot!" and it helped so much. I'll post some videos soon. Your videos are the best!

There are some great spots to be found in Greece, Keros beach is known for wind- but careful who you work for! Drop me a DM if you want more insider info. I've got a little "intro to Keros beach" film coming out soon too! Glad you've been enjoying the series! 👍👍👍

By the way, key for practicing this is having a good site where you're not pressed for time. One of the places I sail at is good for this, the other not so much. I can't go on long reaches and take my time with the gybes, because there's a sandbar that I end up hitting if I drop off foil (often). The other one though, it's a lot less stressful to do a gybe attempt (not there yet) or tack to get away from the sandbar. That slow turn you're showing looks to be key to managing the pace of the movement.

100% true, think I talk about this at the start- getting used to earring away and being under control before we then start slamming round gybes! Good reminder of the tip! 👍👍👍

Excellent videos, really enjoying the lessons and will start foiling soon I hope. Keros looks like an amazing spot for vacations. Just noticed that you are filming with Olfi 👍 this little camera has its own style in itself, I’ve got one too

Great video! I am confident in my straight line windfoiling and I love slowing down and riding small bay swell and chop but I cannot change directions / transition just yet (via jibing). I am in a shallow bay in the Southeast United States. I see that you are doing the foot change before the sail flip. I learned to jibe that way for windsurfing and am curious if doing some backwinded sail flying would help me with the windfoil jibe. Your tips make a lot of sense to me and I like how quickly you are changing straps. So practice upwind and downwind and board height before trying a round of jibes sounds good!

Hi! Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it. I think it’s much easier to do the foot change first, it’s generally a more successful way to learn. Maybe you’ve seen I did a video of the pros and con’s of the two techniques? Backwinded… interesting question…. I’m a huge fan of leaning this skill. It helps your coordination, balance and sail control, and is used in many situations, however I’m not sure it directly benefits gybing (on the foil or not). It really helps tacking though! Stay tuned as I’m mid-work on a back winding skills video coming soon! 👍👍👍

Very noce video and helpful tuto. I and in the phase of practicing gybes, and there are acouple of criticato point i phase throughout: when i take back foot out of the straps, i tend to sole down and reduce eight often getting to the water, then when dead downwind, i tend to overfoil since the sail gas no Wind and i loose the downforce componenti to stabilite height. How do you overcome these? Do you have ant suggestioni?
@Cookiesports
@Cookiesports 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Taking the BF out will undoubtedly affect the ride height- which is why it’s key to so early, then stabilise. Aiming to approach the gybe at “half mast” (mid-height on the foil). If you’re dropping to low apply pressure to the back foot (once out of the strap. It’s good to get used to riding down wind without it in the strap- have a look for the other video of “foil skills” in this playlist! 👍

Thanks for the video, Cookie. You move your feet first, then jibe sail. Seems like the world is divided on this--feet or sail first. Do you ever jibe the sail before the feet? Advantages of each? Thanks!
@Cookiesports
@Cookiesports 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! On the fin the world is divided between step gybe (flipping the rig first) and strap-2-strap gybes. Follow this link to a video where I discuss the pros and cons... kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmatY6F6est0nKs On the foil I think there is much less of a divide or discussion about which should be done (first). There are a few considerations... - 99% of people will learn the step gybe (foot change first) first. All modern instructors and all coaching schemes teach this first (on the foil and the fin). Much easier to maintain height and foil control doing this. Also much easier to practice non-planning, much easier to maintain good vision and good counter balance throughout. Check out this video for more... kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZ_Oh5aPp7F6btE - The only argument I have for learning the strap-2-strap gybe first is if S-2-S is the only gybe you can do on a fin then you're more likely to get success doing it on the foil. If your only way of gybing is rig flip first, then learning and entirely new style/technique to gybe and stay on the foil, will be harder than taking your existing movements and refining them for the foil. However, whichever one you decide to do, make sure the foot change goes straight into the new front strap. Final link to another video which is super helpful is here. Made for fins, but easy to tae the information and knowledge here and transfer over to either kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXTRmGuDn5t2iq8

Top content as always. Do you use a foil specific board? I'm waiting for the foil ready RRD boards to drop in price before I take the plunge. Do the same techniques apply when using foil specific boards vs foil ready windsurf boards? Most of my pals that foil started with converted windsurf boards, they pretty much all avoided using the footstraps when they started foiling. Would a foil specific board change the approach? Thanks.
@Cookiesports
@Cookiesports 4 жыл бұрын
Hi! The board used in this film is not a foil specific board, but is about the best hybrid I've found. It is an RRD 135 Firemove Flight V4. "Foil Ready boards" generally aren't the easiest thing for foiling on, tails rant wind enough and the fin/foil box isn't quiet in the right place. "Hybrids" (like I was on) are generally OK at doing everything, but not great at doing anything specific, this board I was on was better on the foil that in was on the fin to be honest! The technique stays the same and I've deliberately made the tips in generic for both- the way we create lift and the the "creepy back foot" placement, it's a slightly different place on foil boards, but you still need to move that foot slowly to find where that place is- and it'll change depending on how you have the kit set up and how powered up you are. So in summary- yes, the technique described her is the same for all boards when foiling.

Thank you for the video, very noce and helpful. I and in the phase of practicing the nine, i tendo to slow down when i take the foot out of the back straps, probably because i sheet out somehow for some reason, then, when approaching dead downwind the board tend to skyrock because there's no Wind in the sail and the downforce Is missing , Is the sounding usuale? What Is the fix?

qe4wueHi, Sorry for the delayed response- missed the message somehow! So, make sure you take the back foot out the strap whilst going UPWIND- well before the gybe begins. I have a new video today that will help you.

@@Cookiesports Hi Cookie, my problem is that I can't keep the board low near the water and I think due to my low weight, 68kg. My board is RRD Pocket Rocket 180 with hidrofoil RRD WH Universal Alu Set. I stay as forward as possible with my body, but after a while the board takes off.. What advice can you give me? Thanks and congratulations! ps: my zodiac sign: pisces
