Thanks for a great refresher video for hand stitching a rolled hem! I haven't done this in quite a while and now, because of cancer surgery, I'm finding a need to make matching scarves for many outfits.

I have a fragile silk scarf my mother had from a close friend so when I wear it I’m honouring both these lovely people, now gone. I’ve wanted to fix it because it’s frayed so with these skills I can do that now. Many thanks.

Hi thanks for this great tutorial! Wondering if you could advise how to make rolled silk cord (such as for making necklaces) ? I cannot figure out if I need to sew and edge and then cut it off, or cut the silk into 1cm strips and roll/ sew it. I feel like there must be a faster method of doing this. Thanks 🥰

Great tutorial! Thanks to this video, I am going to make my first hand-roll scarf. A question: Is it a preference that the edges are rolled on right side or wrong side? It seems Hermes scarves are rolled towards right side.
@frenchstyle70383 жыл бұрын
I believe only Hermès do it that way but I don't know why. When I purchased my first vintage Hermès scarf, I thought it was a fake because of that. I find scarves look prettier when rolled towards the other side.
@marybethpazdernik97832 жыл бұрын
While watching several videos on rolling a hem I learned that rolling to the right side is considered the French style and rolling to the wrong side is considered Italian style. Either one is perfectly acceptable.
@blazingasn12 жыл бұрын
you make it look so easy. are you highly experienced in hand rolled edges?

Thank you for such a clear and concise tutorial. I have one question though, why polyester thread? I thought silk thread would be a better choice.
@GardnerRobbie9 жыл бұрын
Unfortunatly silk thread knots easily so will cause more problems. It is possible, however we have always used polyester thread. Robbie Gardner Director Beckford Silk
@thingamajig19195 жыл бұрын
What i find helps is to wax the silk thread with beeswax which will strengthen the thread and make it smoother, hence solving any knotting problems.

I couldn’t see if the stitch in the main scarf was a back stitch with a knot forming each time or was the thread out of the way and not knotted.

I just rolled 3 scarves, working as quickly as this woman, but each scarf took me about 2.5 hours. I don't believe anyone can do 2.5 scarves an hour, sorry... Edit: on your own website, your worker Mel says that one scarf takes her about an hour!
@sandrabergsander28255 жыл бұрын
Nice turtorial with good video that show all details. Only thing to mark on - polyester treads on silk?! That's a bad choice. Why bother with making these time consuming stitch to make the scarf look good, and use cheap materials that do not match the characteristics of the silk material in the scarf..? :/
