This is the second time I'm trying to learn handlettering. The first time was a long time ago and my lettering didn't improve. I had no clue of what I was doing wrong, or how to hold a brush pen and I ended up ruining a bunch of expensive pens for nothing. This time however, I'm fully committed to it. I've been practicing everyday and I actually purchase two of your working sheets (Simplified Lettering and The Eloise) after taking the mini course and watching a lot of your videos. You have no idea of how helpful it has been! I'm keeping tracking of my evolution by writing everyday the same phrase and it's been amazing! I really want to thank you, because I honestly thought that I could never learn how to do it, but here I am, improving little by little everyday! Thank you so much!

I really love all of your videos. Thank you for this concise update =) I think you're one of the first to say break it down by individual shapes. We all learn the ABC strokes in Kindergarten and with cursive and it's the same way-- practice. I'm glad I took Japanese classes, because this is the same way of learning-- by each shape and each stroke. There were notebooks filled with messy pages XD I can apply this to handlettering, too. Thank you for all your hard work and recommendations!

I am so happy I was able to take Calligraphy class in Jr High, I think maybe summer school. We used Speedball pens with different nibs and ink wells. It was fun. I need to get back into that because it has been a long time and I've forgotten how. Trying to make a planner for 2020 made me realize how much I need to work on my lettering. I've seen one channel using the Pentel calligraphy pens as dip pens when they ran out of ink. I need to see if I can find couple of those maybe.

Thanks so much! This really helped me! I have a question: would you reccomend a thicker or thinner brush for a beginner? :)
@HowtoHandLetter4 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome! And it kind of depends a bit on what you can find and what you like. If you only like the look of big chunky lettering, than I think it’s ok to start there! But if you like the look of small lettering, I think a pentel touch is a GREAT brush pen for beginners! Hope that helps!

very useful, have you ever used recycled paper for caligraphy
@HowtoHandLetter2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I have bought notebooks with recycled paper, but not made my own yet! I did buy the supplies to create my own paper out of my paper scraps though so I am definitely planning to try that. It may not be the best for delicate brush pens, but maybe watercolor! Thanks for watching!
@Ambardinst2 жыл бұрын
@@HowtoHandLetter thank you for the response, happy to discuss creativity and art, making recycled paper in various ways the quality results are thick, thin, flat, curved, also the fibers can be different, with various trials producing various characters of recycled paper that can be used for certain purposes, for example some are coated with egg whites etc. so there are types that are suitable for delicate brush pens and/or for watercolors as well as for other uses

Thank you so much! I love the simplicity of your tutorials and can't wait to purchase the practice sheets. I'm a freelance artist, but I've always turned to faux lettering for my work. I've been wanting to get into brush lettering so I can upgrade my skills, whether I use it for my business or not. I just think it's great when we practice and test our own abilities.
