I just can’t thank you enough for addressing the tv like it’s a real thing, instead of pretending it’s just a maybe for real homes. We like our tv! Everybody we know does! We can’t make it disappear, so how about we do the RIGHT thing with it?!? And you don’t pretend it’s possible in every situation to put it somewhere other than over the fireplace. Sometimes, it’s just the best place! Love it. Love your channel!

Hey Drew, fun to hear from you. I have enjoyed watching your journey here on KZbin as well. I’m so impressed with your design skills and love how your home is coming together. Every video has an element of surprise and the finished product is always so beautiful. You remind me of myself at your age… not afraid to try something new, determined to find treasures… even on the street 😂 and able to pull off magic (as it were) in everything you touch. Wishing you continued success in your life and in the homes you touch. I’ll bet your mom is really proud of you Drew. I know I am 👍🏻 RR

Thank you for this!!! I agree with everything you shared. My hubby and I had a debate about the size of our living room TV. I wanted a 65"maximum as it was going to fit nicely between 2 windows. My hubby wanted 85" (which leaves no wall space between the TV and the windows 😂). Neither of us was going to back down... but eventually, we met in the middle and landed on a 75" Samsung Frame TV. It still allows for wall space, while also allowing for a larger furniture piece to fit underneath. I still think 65" would've been perfect aesthetically... but hey! At least we're still married 😂

I like problem solving sessions. I feel like these situations are similar to mine and I definitely learned from some mistakes. I definitely love your high ends make over houses, but I feel like I don’t have that huge space nor the money to purchase the items in the house. So it’s nothing personal. I appreciate your efforts to make your channel more practical! Love it❤❤❤

Back in the 90s the cabinet housing the TV was a godsend. I could shut away the ugly black box. The Samsung frame TVs are a modern approach, but sadly my husband wanted the bigger and technologically better TV. Personally I hate it, but what can you do? It’s all about compromise and I get my way with all the decorating decisions. So thanks for addressing this issue.

I'm really happy to see this important topic! My son is legally blind and has to sit about 6' from the TV. That being said, we have FOR YEARS had out TV mounted so when he is sitting on his favorite bar chair stool right next to the TV it's at his height (he's about 5'5") I was so happy so see that I passed your test! I have a large mossy green TV cabinet with 4 glass doors, and a just slightly smaller TV mounted above the wall above it. My husband has wanted a larger TV and I have always said no! it would be too big for the cabinet underneath! LOL (I cannot believe people cram their necks to look up for hours! Chiropractor time!!!!!)

I know I'm late to the video, but what sets you apart from other channels is that you're acknowledging that not everyone has the budget or living space to hide their TV if their space is small and there is no spare room in the house for it. Instead, you are showing how to incorporate a TV into the space so it blends with the decor around it. When I enter someone's home I expect to see a TV. My brain doesn't go to "hide that thing!", but I do notice if the proportions/balance is off. My console is longer than the TV and the TV is centered on it, (sitting on the console). It looks balanced and a part of the room. It felt natural to set it up this way before I even clicked on your video so I'm pleased to see I did the right thing!

This has been very encouraging. You put words to my gut feeling that my tv is out of place! I was told to not put a tv over my wood burning fireplace in our new dining/family room. We are avid football fans & our large family comes for lunch & the game on Sundays. My only wall wide enough is awkward! Between kitchen doorway & window. Placed it high to see over island with tilt stand which can turn toward either rm as needed..works great but need to do something asthetic to frame it in. I should just enter a pic & face the embarrassment. 😉

Also need to find a way to mount the TV so it doesn’t stick out so much. We couldn’t center it because the available studs weren’t in the right place so had to put it on a board that was solidly mounted to the studs. Maybe there’s some kind of metal piece that could be used instead? 🎉

My husband checked online for a buyer's guide to find a tv for our current family room. It gave him the maximal dimensions based on viewing distance. It's a normal sized tv which was easy to center with floating shelves on either side. I want a pair of deeper floating shelves underneath for tech gadgets and a DVD collection (yes, we still have those things). He's a keeper for the modest tv selection and his electrical handyman capabilities to hide the cables!

Lol ... my husband and I fuss over TV size and placement. As you said, his motto is the GRANDER the better and he loves having the TV as the focal point. I prefer a much smaller TV and hidden so something more decorative is the focal point. Our compromise is TV hung over a large hutch and are planning to frame the TV so it looks like a piece of art. I run music with beautiful lanscape/wildlife scenes (Tim Janis has a great collection!). Even when I turn the music down the imagery is beautiful, refreshing and seasonal! 😊

Love your Top 10 series! As a single gal, I´m a big fan of large TVs when the space allows it especially in the bedroom and kudos on your TV, it looks sooo much larger than a 65 " sitting above your crendenza. I read that the recommend height is about 42-45 inches from floor to the center of TV so its eye-level but I will see if its true.

Hi Rebecca - I found your channel through @lonefox :-) and am just getting started with your content! Love this series so far since it is totally relatable, looking at “real” homes! And this topic (tv placement) is rarely discussed and so necessary - thanks! I (60 F) am actually the video nut in the family - my husband could care less what kind or size tv we have LOL. However, I HATE to see my tv when we’re not using it and have mostly been able to keep them behind closed doors; we modified our old CRT entertainment center with a swing arm to accommodate a 40” LCD stored at a diagonal that we pulled out to watch but unfortunately we just lost that piece of furniture to a total house flood a year ago and now we can’t find anything like that which fits in our space, accommodates a larger tv, AND has doors that close, so we are going with a Frame TV (which I think you also have) with a nice large console below - it’s a compromise. Your guidelines were very helpful as we transition to a new way of setting up our tv.

Actually, Rebecca, my husband wanted the 86" TVs at first; however, now I'm so glad we have them. I especially enjoy them while watching football games, Christmas movies and your videos on KZbin! 😅

I think the reason some people mount their television really high is because they've seen it done at sports bars. But, of course, there's a difference between a sports bar and a home.

Just saw your video and I plan to send an email! My living room drives me nuts and I'd love your input! Long, narrow, with only one possible space for the TV. Can't wait to see more!

I enjoyed your video about TV placement. The biggest mistake I see is putting the TV too high. When you do that, viewers are straining their necks, I.e., putting stress on their spines. You need to view the TV at eye level. If someone is putting a large TV above a fireplace, that’s too high. Is the rooms focal point the fireplace, or the TV? It can’t be both.

Tv question. I have always thought that your maximum seating should be across from the TV. I know the TV is king of the room. It is the first decision I ask a client before I move forward. I love all of your Tv suggestions.

As someone formerly in the CE space, most designers tend to de-prioritize performance and usability over aesthetics. You've done a good job addressing most of the goofy things people do. Unfortunately, many builders have no idea where to place wires, and TVs get mounted where those wires are. It's critical as with any other trade to ensure AV and ID components coordinate to ensure things don't end up wrong. In my experience, good looks and high performance tend to go hand in hand.

Love this series! I wish I’d seen it earlier and had been able to send in photos. My issue is no wall space! My living room where the TV is located is broken up by large opening’s into other rooms and windows. There is approximately 5 ft of wall space between two windows but directly opposite the fireplace. The TV is currently located in a tall cabinet set on an angle to the right of the fireplace. ( which is too high for tv placement). Would love to loose this cabinet!
