*this was filmed a month ago* and the last humans I saw before self isolating 😭😂 - also good suggestion from Ethan to add a safety chain to the light that’s connected straight into the stud or something else as a fail safe. Everything is super sturdy and tight but better to be safe 👌🏻
@ethanknoll37394 жыл бұрын
I work in theatre and whenever we are hanging anything that will be over people we use a safety chain. It’s basically just a weight rated carabiner and steel cable that you loop through the light yolk and around a secure thing (usually a pipe) that way if a clamp fails the light is caught by the chain.

Hey Sarah - great video, so cool to get some hands-on tips about lighting in a small space. From a former best-boy electric in the film work, on the terminology front: -The accessories you were using on the baby plates are called grip heads. They come in a few different sizes. -The arms from the c-stands are called grip arms -A c-stand is a complete stand (like you have) with a grip-head and grip-arm Cheers!

Love the lighting. I would have been tempted to put a truss on the ceiling the length of the room and then mounted the lights on that That way i could move them along the track as needed.
@paulsabaj62504 жыл бұрын
You might need to make sure your clear of that sprinkler pipe . It's code that you can't hang stuff from sprinkler pipes and also storage needs to be 24 inches below the sprinkler head so that in the case of a fire they will work properly and not block the pattern for the sprinkler heads . Another thing to consider for the movement of the lighting is look into the light weight truss set ups that could be set up and also easy to take down should you move to a different space, Love the videos and especially that desk monitor . Stay healthy gang

Hanging lights is always the way to go. Fun to watch. You should 100% pick up a safety cable for any light hanging from the ceiling, these things are industry standard in production and required safety for any light that hangs over people. Great rigging set up! The only thing is, that extra grip head really isn't necessary. the fact that grip heads are self-tightening because of the lights weight the extra really isnt doing anything! If you want to really secure the light get some lighting safety cable! a safer option the two grip heads falling from the articulating arms!

Personally I think I would have used flat panel or flexi lights, rather than big soft boxes. Flexi panels like those supplied by Westcott or Falcon Eyes, mounted onto swing-out boom arms, would have saved you an awful lot of space, especially when you were not using them.
@Ryan-Payne4 жыл бұрын
You really should consider adding safety wires to each light because while the extra gobo is a good idea your still vulnerable of the light's yolk failing at the baby pin and hitting someone. The safety wire latches to the light and a sturdy beam or pole that allows the light to simply swing upon failure.

@anthonyc18834 жыл бұрын
"Hate" is ridiculously overused on the internet. Anyone who dares give a comment or ask a question that isn't glowingly complimentary is branded a "hater." Bullcrap. Your particular comments, especially coming from someone with professional expertise, are politely stated and probably very much worth heeding. I've seen at least one other person express a similar concern. When Sara gets back I hope she changes her setup.

@@saradietschy You did the right thing. Both in the move and in the deleting the video (for your mental health) Yea people must not have watched the video to fully understand that you both were doing the right thing AND doing it in the most responsible way. Moving to be close to family and support system during these times is the best use of resources. As a general rule yea people in NYNY should not be leaving in mass.. Why? because most of them will not being doing it in a safe and responsible way. 1st responsible action: You two had family setup a place to self isolate for 2 weeks when you arrived.. 2nd responsible action: You two also self isolated the whole trip from NY to TX.. You are not going to infect people using a rest stop unless they decided to lick the freaking toilet seats lol Self serve gas pumps are a thing people. 3rd responsible action: removing your young healthy non critical (jobs) bodies from NY and all the resources you would have used.. 4th responsible action: Practicing self and family member mental health taking yourself out of harms way. This reduces stress on you, your BF, your parents, his parents.. ect... So F*ck those fools that just want to criticize without knowing or caring about the whole story. You have the ability and support from family to move to a better situation and you took it. You would be no hero if you stayed and added to the chaos that is in NY right now. Not everyone has that option and that is ok too.. We must all do what is best for everyone.. This was not selfish in the slightest.. This would be like telling all the Americans / British / Canadians / other foreign nationals NOT to return to their home countries and stay where they are in a foreign country without the support of their family ect.. We go to great lengths to get those people home.. Just like you did to go home to your parents in Texas. It was the right things to do!

Sara, you will LOVE the Apurture MC lights, I bought one awhile back and enjoyed it so much I bought 2 more so I could use multiple coloured lighting for close up portrait shots. Plus the special effects on them are mind blowing. They are great for indoors for use in say your studio or a large living room for added lighting for against a wall etc....but they are good not great for outdoors as there some fall off from them....for outdoor use you will want to look at the Neewer 440 or 660 LED RGB light panels. I bought 2 of the 480 LED panels and they are SUPER bright both indoors and outdoors plus they are bi temperature. I also have two of 660 LED Bi Temperature (non RGB ) panels and even they are SUPER bright. I tested the RGB ones out the other night and I was able to light a good portion of the street with them. The RGB ones also have 3 special effects settings and are bluetooth with an app on your cellphone.
