Great video Diego - thanks. Went to Belanglo for the first time this weekend and we picked quite a few Saffron Milk Caps. It was my first time picking them and I just cooked them up in olive oil with garlic and herbs. Lovely!

Awesome stuff mate. We take our own students out west to look for Lactarius Deliciosus too, (when in season). I learnt to forage for funghi, in the Alps of Italy in the early 90's, came back to Australia, and was also surprised how little Anglo- Aussies knew about mushrooming. We recently cooked up Suillus Granulatus for our students, with a few extra ingrediants, and they came out quite nice. A little different to the Saffron Milk cap, but quite edible and tasty.

Wonderful work, thank you to this man but…Slippery jacks are delicious dehydrated and used in stocks for clear mushroom soup or in slow cooked meat dishes… priced by us Polish… wish you didn’t dismiss this treasure of a mushroom, however thank you for your video 🙏🏻

How far south do these mushrooms grow?

I assume he’s worried about people touching their eyes and mouth. Cause you can safely touch ANY mushroom. Even the most poisonous. So long as you wash your hands after.

I'm such a amateur at detecting which mushroom is safe & which is poisonous .so i buy mushrooms from the shops .i don't even know how i got to this video lol but I'm interested & i would love to find wild mushrooms in a group of people that know there mushrooms .i will never go on my own cause then ill sure will die eating something poisonous thinking its ok .

11:18 I understand that you want people to be careful but you can't get sick or die from touching any mushroom. You would need to ingest at least a decent size piece of death cap to die.

Wild mushrooms can be found everywhere even on antartica.
Mushrooms aren’t plants they’re in the kingdom of fungi which is not technically plants and mushrooms themselves aren’t technically flowers they’re the fruiting bodies of the mycelial mass. Otherwise good vid, thanks.

Puffballs are eadible when young. One on a stem and another type grow on the ground. One is not edible, i forgot which. Research.

that red one with white spots(amanita muscaria) actually is a magic mushroom, not like psilocybe, it contains muscimol and ibotenic acid, but it's not poisonous. Also, you can touch and even chew(but spit out, not swallow) any mushroom, even if its infamous for its lethality.

@@fungusenthusiast8249 Although you are correct that fly agaric (Amanita muscaria) is not poisonous, it's also worth noting it does have compounds with levels of toxicity which is not to be entirely overlooked. Eating a rather large quanitity of A. muscaria has been known to make people feel very sick and has sent people to hospital in the past (there have also been extreme cases where people have died, but usually with some extraneous factors as well). If anybody decides to eat these mushrooms, as a foraging mushroom post-boiled, or raw, be very careful, do your research on the species and know the risks! :)

@@platylobiumSp yes, I am aware that the mushroom at the least isn't pleasant to eat.
