😢 happily i have 2 Buff Orpington hens who went broody. This year it was a 5 month old hen who sat, hatched 3 of six. The other 3 i brought in to incubate. Unfortunately, her 3rd was a Black Austrelaurp and she refused it, practically cut its head off in front of me. I scooped it up and brought inside. I brought one of the two she liked for company. I swamped the yellow chicks every day to keep them both used to her and 1 for JET. Meanwhile, another hatched incubator way. Its a super cute EE, pale gray. Testing mum with it, no way... So! I will give a listen.

While it hasn't happened to me yet, I am aware of similar stories to yours, where a hen will reject chicks of a certain colour. It's always in the back of my mind when I have a first-time hen hatching. It sounds like you found a good solution to an unfortunate situation. Thanks so much for sharing your story.

This is good to know,do u have to have a rooster with th hens to have fertile eggs to hatch?

For your own eggs from your own hens to be fertile, you do need a rooster. But you can buy fertile eggs from someone who does have a rooster. That is how I add new breeds to my flock. Thanks for watching 😀

Yes, your not supposed to wash them

Yes the eggs certainly have better chances if they can be left unwashed.
