Thank guys. I play guitar and I've had a horrible time trying to sort out the various pain points I have developed in my older age. A note of interest: In my case the muscle and tendon tension is not in the forearm, but in the muscle and tendons where the tricep meets the inside of the elbow, yet the pain is the same as golfer's elbow (same spot). I started cross fiber massage on that group of muscle and tissue (at the base of the tricep) and that seems to help quite a bit.

Golfer’s elbow refers to inflammation of the wrist flexor muscles, also known as medial epicondylitis (because flexor Carpi radialis and Ulnaris originate on the medial epicondyle of humerus). I would probably maybe even suggest stretching of the wrist flexors and do some ROM exercises immediately after (especially because stretching can improve ROM)

Thanks guys - dealing with this now brought on specifically by tennis serving (i.e. an overhead throwing motion). I'm just not clear on what a full "program" would look like for rehab.

@evansmith22792 жыл бұрын
This video was about golfer’s elbow, the inside. Your pain is called tennis elbow, on the outside of the elbow. The mechanism of injury is the same, just different tendons and muscles on the opposite side.
@crawkn Жыл бұрын
Maybe someone can tell me if this makes sense: Since the healing rate is slow because there is no blood supply directly to the cells which repair the damage, the main thing is to remove any waste products due to damaged tissue removal, and replace the contaminated fluids with clean oxygenated fluids. So I'm thinking one strategy might be to put direct pressure onto as much of the affected tissue as possible, to squeeze fluid out, maintain that pressure for a little while so that the blood and lymph surrounding the tissue can carry that fluid away, then release to allow the cartilage to reabsorb fresher cleaner fluid. I'm not sure how quickly fluid would be forced out, washed away, or reabsorbed, so I don't know about the timing. Of course if the pain is intense, this might not work for some, but in my own injury the amount of pain produced by this direct pressure actually feels good.

@@lucadellasciucca967 How does that "realign" the tendon?
@lucadellasciucca9673 ай бұрын
@@crawkn The force of the muscle pulls on the tendon of course. We re talking about realligning the fibers of the tendon. That s why massaging does nothing if not alliviate short term perceived pain. You dont have to trust me btw, just do some research on tendinopathy.
@crawkn3 ай бұрын
@@lucadellasciucca967 the reason for my hypothesis is that cartilage is sparsely populated with living cells, and doesn't have blood supply, so it is difficult to remove waste and dead tissue, and to get nutrients in. That's why cartilage heals slowly. It is not a question of massage _or_ other physical therapy, you can do both.
@lucadellasciucca9673 ай бұрын
@@crawkn All i know is that there is little to no resaerch showing long term effects from massaging. What you re saying is intuitive. What is less intuitive is that to get into the deep tissue, wheather muscle or tendon, a massage of any kind is barely going to have an effect. Also, if we re talking about a tendinopathy, inflamation is no longer the problem. I know about this because of first hand use, i ve tried everything. Long term, the right exercises with progressive overload were the only thing that could fix the problem for me. And science backs it up.

Do you have a study that proves or supports your massage theory or is this just a theory? Because the inflammation is what hurts, then you rub on the inflamed muscle/tendon to make it better? Rest, ice, taking it easy on exercises that further inflame the area is what works best for most. And Advil.
