How to HEAR the altered scale

Do you have any similar insight for learning how to hear tonic minor as anything other than Minor 6? I came up treating every minor 7th literally and playing Dorian. But then learned Autumn Leaves off of something else and root minor is now always Gm6 to my ears 😂

Depends who you listen to I guess? I mean for a lot of guys, it very much IS that haha.
