Putting another pop up greenhouse inside your greenhouse during the coldest winter months might be the way to go. They are not bad price wise. Looking forward to seeing your solution..

Just found this video and your channel. I have had greenhouses for a long time in a cold climate. Trying to keep a glass greenhouse in the 70's during the cold winder months on electricity is very expensive. I have chosen to grow cool weather crops during winter and keep the greenhouse temperatures above freezing. My use propane heaters. To grow warm weather crops I have an indoor grow room in my basement. That is a much more efficient approach for me.
@MadAcreFarms2 жыл бұрын
Yes! We found out the hard way. We added a propane heater but trying a similar approach to what you are doing as well. Thank you for watching!!

Hey! New subscriber here! Not sure if you’ve solved your heating problems yet BUT, if not, instead of spending sooo much on additional electricity, you could add thermal mass heating by adding concrete pavers, gravel, water (in dark containers) and insulating your glass in the winter with reflective foam. Gardener Scott has great advice on it!
@GardenisLife Жыл бұрын
im not sure if you have actually entered the game of heating a greenhouse yet, beyond somewhere like florida,,, but my 1200 gallons, which is 3 gallons per sqft... couldnt keep my greenhouse more than 34 cause it dropped to 31 outside. it had 3 weeks at 90 degree days to heat up. it doesnt work and i wish folks would stop acting l;ike it does lol if a heater like this aint doing it, surely the water isnt going to do it..

Would heating the water tanks be an option? The bulk of the water if warm could radiate enough to warm the greenhouse?

I use the kratky method in 5 gallon totes and I run a pump tank system with pvc frame system but everything I use is black in the winter retains the heat from the sun in the day but holds enough in at night for a small 900 watt heater at night.I grow a ton of greens and lettuce all winter in a 7 ×15 greenhouse.

We are struggling this year with our greenhouse as well. We tried a small woodstove but it wouldnt stay lit. We are going to try a propane heater. I would prefer a solar power but ... oh well.
@MadAcreFarms10 ай бұрын
We can relate! Not sure of your greenhouse build or your zone but here in Iowa trying to heat a glass house wasn’t cost effective at least for us due to current upgrades our greenhouse needs. If I could offer any advice is to just work with what you can grow and build from that. For example I have been considering cold frames inside our greenhouse and growing just cole crops during the off season. Our hydroponics setup we need a more stable environment that we just don’t have currently. We have a propane heater as well but the cost of running it without fixing the inefficiency of our greenhouse we are literally paying to heat the outside. Maybe just step back and take a look to see if you have other options to grow different crops and implement other solutions vs trying to heat it or.. start with a small greenhouse that is insulated well and then use the propane or this little electric heater. Good luck!!

Ok youngsters. Go buy bubble wrap and a spray on adhesive compatible to you bubble wrap. Line the glass windows with the bubble wrap. It’ll allow the sun rays in and reduce the thermal transfer of green house heat through the glass

Hey sis, I know I'm late to the game on this reply but thought it may still help. Try throwing up some tarps to making your greenhouse smaller to accommodate the heater. Half a greenhouse is 120 sq. ft., well within the range of the heater.

Not sure how I missed this video. Just wondering if you still have the hydroponic system in use? If so, aquarium heaters might be a huge help. We used to keep our old vinegar jugs, paint them black to hold heat for thermal mass warmth. It wasn't perfect but setting the vinegar jugs filled with water between plant containers helped a lot. Bad thing is the jugs take up space but along the perimeter we didn't mind. I think it's great though that you use hydroponics! Another good way to produce healthy food! Your channel quickly became a favorite 🤗

Hi there! Thank you so much for your continued support it truly means so much to us! We decided to hold on the greenhouse hydroponics until Spring so you will start seeing us use it here really soon! That is a great idea with the jugs! Not a bad idea with the aquarium heater either! I will say everyday is a learning experience for us and we have so many things we want to do and learn it gets to be overwhelming. Reading comments like yours really keep us going. Thank you again!

I will tell you from experience that bubble wrap has zero thermal ability. A small wood stove would be a big help. There is a lot of area that you are trying to heat overhead that is not being used. Heat rises and that is where a ton of your energy is going.
@MadAcreFarms3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! We will definitely look into that option!
