Christmas Day! We had one of our baby goats born breeched and not breathing! He was fighting to survive and luckily he’s doing good! He still can’t stand up or walk so we also hope momma takes him still and cares for him!

I have floppy baby goat 2 days old now. He can stand up but flops all the time. He can’t feed oh his own so we hold him there to get a drink from mom. Does floppy syndrome go away on its own as long as we make sure he is getting food and help him stand on his feet to get stronger ?
@riebelfarms Жыл бұрын
It is probably best to get an opinion from your vet, since we are not veterinarians. In our case, our premature baby goat just needed support while her muscles got stronger. There are other reasons for floppy kids though that may need other treatment. You could check out this resource for more info on “floppy kid syndrome” and hopefully it will be helpful. goats.extension.org/floppy-kid-syndrome/ Best of luck!! I hope your baby goat improves quickly.

I have a baby. About the same thing going on, but she's walking good kind of but she doesn't like to drink milk out of the bottle. So I have to put it in the side of her mouth in order for her to get milk any suggestions?
@riebelfarms8 ай бұрын
Sometimes it takes forever for them to get the hang of drinking out of a bottle. Just keep trying even though it can be frustrating. We try these things to encourage them to take the bottle: cover her eyes while you put the nipple in her mouth (this simulates the udder on her eyes if she were nursing mom), scratch/tickle just above the tail while trying to get her to take a bottle (this is kind of like what her mom would do when she sniffs and licks her behind while nursing), and sometimes rubbing their throat while trying to bottle feed helps. They seem to prefer standing when taking a bottle and sometimes moving the nipple around in their mouth helps stimulate the sucking reflex. I hope something in here helps and your little baby gets stronger soon!!

@riebelfarms2 жыл бұрын
Oh no! Keep working with the one who is having trouble. It is possible to get them stronger! It took about 7 days before we felt comfortable leaving her at the farm without any sort of protection from getting trampled. We kept her at home for a few days and then took her to be with other goats during the day after a few more days but we put her in a large dog crate to make sure nobody laid or stepped on her. Good luck! Let us know how we can help! 😊
