Just hiked this trail two weeks ago on my first ever trip to Alaska. Unbelievable experience. Sunny, clear skies and mid 60s the entire day, couldn't of been more perfect. Those views are indescribable.

We did the Exit Glacier excursion tour when we were there a few years ago. Epic! Crampons, ice climbing. dodging crevasses the whole nine yards. Top 5 adventure for me for sure.

I did this hike in July 2008...took about 6hours RT...the way up feels ENDLESS, but if you do it, you will never EVER forget it!!! 😃🏔️ I'm glad to know that despite The Melting Glaciers, this hike is still spectacular. Just be prepared and be Bear Aware...it IS their home after all. 🐻😳

@@robertovaladez96 we got there around 11 am and there was plenty of parking, just kind of far away from the trail head. We saw a mom bear and baby bear VERY far away, they were like little moving dots because of how far away they were. I would say carry bear spray and if you can carry a fire arm.

well probably not because since it's alaska, im betting the snow wont be melted yet by may. which means the trails will all be covered in snow and mud and it will be very difficult.

Gorgeous views indeed! Do you think its still accessible early October? Also are the campgrounds free to camp in at Exit Glacier?

just keep an eye on the forecast, once it snows more than a foot id say its probably too late, especially if they close or dont plow the main road. otherwise if it doesnt snow, early october should be perfect. we did it mid to late september. im not sure how the campgrounds work out there but theres no one out there so if youre camping, im sure no one will mind. we slept in the car in the parking lot there in the winter time once, by where the road was closed.

Hey, yeah, as you get up towards the top there are several spots where you can go up to and touch the icefield. The landscape just gradually connects into it. You can hike around the edge of it pretty good, but i'm not sure if you could physically get up onto the top of the ice without some ice-axes and crampons and ropes and stuff, at least not out into the middle of it. maybe you could go like 20 feet out if you found a smooth location without any crevasses.

Any month in the late spring, summer or early fall will be great! It's probably nicer without snow all over the path, so whenever it warms up, it'll be good.

I hiked this two days ago. It is 4.1 miles to the end of the trail. The scenery up there is worth the hike for sure!

If I had to guess, I would say there would still be snow on the entry-road as well as snow on the trail. If you can somehow get to the trailhead, you could still hike up to the glacier I bet, But if you have to hike the whole road too, it would probably take too long to do during daylight hours :/
