That is where looking ahead (almost uncomfortably) helps, huh. Such a balance between looking "through" the corner. Look too far out of the rut and toward the next corner and you begin to straight-line/chord the turn...but some of the best riders I know are so in tune with their machine that the last 1/3 of the corner is muscle memory based on the next corner.

@BrendanFairclough4 жыл бұрын
Try keep your weight centred if not a little more over the front. Hanging off the back is the worst thing you can do in a corner. Leaning off the back will make the front wheel light and loose grip.

Great video Brendan. I noticed on the first slo-mo 2:31 of how to ride the rut that you pedaled backwards to set your feet up for the next rut. I do this sometimes and always think that I am doing something incorrectly because pedaling forward doesn't always seem like the safest thing to do but just figured I was inexperienced and couldn't set up the corners correctly. Could you talk about this a little?

A vid I watched covered a major important point that, when done. Gets your knees, shoulder, and head, all aiming in the correct direction. Video is also a key item, so you can actually see how well you are doing it, and you can watch your progression. Question when you're in a turn and the bike slides out from under you, and you slam into the ground. What caused it? When riding straight, only the center of the tire is used, so what are those lugs on the outside for? Ok. The answer. We need to learn to lean the bike over through the turns. So when the bike slides, we stay on and slide with it vs the bike sliding out from underneath us. When we lean the bike, the big outside lugs get to dig in. When leaning, all of a sudden, your body position changes, causing your knees to aim in the correct direction. One arm will go straight, and the other will bend. All these body positions just happen. It is not something we force. What we force is learning to lay the bike over in heavy leans. Your outside pedal will be down gravity will be driving the inside lugs into the ground. Bingo, you now are shredding turns.

I've been trying to practice looking ahead and keeping my head up but it's hard at high speed when my eyes just want to go the obstacle or jump that the front wheel is about to roll over. Does becoming comfortable looking further ahead on the trail something that just comes with practice or is there something I should be doing differently? I actually used to put my elbows out a lot and it is a bad habit,. I do not understand why almost all coaches teach it. Since I started to have them closer to my body, I started to feell stronger, I was able to control my bike better and advanced a lot in my manuals and wheelees. Also stopped looking like a jerk. And yes everybody talks about elbows out, but nobody actually does it. I checked tons of videos regarding this before I decide to quit that habit.
@Ganiscol3 жыл бұрын
@@Petr388 its often shown in an exaggerated way off the bike, like Brendan did. Elbows should still be a certain distance from your body, otherwise you'll have difficulties to quickly go low on the bike if needed because you'll first have to move your elbows out and out of the way. I would say for most people its about a 45-50° angle between your body and upper arm. But certainly not close to 90° as is often displayed.

@@paulwintermute1495 bro, I think Brendog might agree with Blake Samson : enter high, exit low. I washed out painfully several times before heeding this advice on where you enter the berm. Try looking to go into it towards the top, and let your front wheel follow it round. It almost naturally ends with you sticking to the berm and exiting at speed. Although entry speed will also define how it goes.
