Got it done, thanks for your help! Very easy overall just a little time-consuming. Could not find that class 200 PVC, so I got the 1.5" grade 40 and cut it in half down the middle then put it on and taped them together which worked as an option. The old oil was so nasty, I wouldn't be surprised it was never serviced since 2007. Thanks again!

Hands down best video for doing this on KZbin. One thing I will add though is Home Depot no longer carries PVC pipe that will work for this. I tried splitting the closest pipe down the middle, then bought an adjustable fork seal driver (which is even more difficult than the pvc) the adjustable fork seal tool was horrible. Broke down and paid for a 41mm (2006 VTX 1300C) fork seal driver and the second one from taking it off, replacing the seal and new dust boot to putting it all back together took maybe... 45 minutes? Local dealer wanted $600 BEFORE parts and LABOR. They estimated 800-850 total with tax. Thank you for this video!
@TwoWheelRocco4 ай бұрын
Happy all went well. I took two pipes sliced them down the middle. Bring the new seal with you to Home Depot or Lowe's and try to use that as an idea on what size. Make sure it fits. Very rewarding to do your own work, especially the savings. It goes a long ways. Imagine when you do the next one, it's that much easier. The dealers are out of hand. So I performed this repair on MY vtx. The only thing I had trouble with was finding the pipe. I couldn't find the specific 1 1/2 pipe anywhere, so I got what they had at the store thinking that all pvc pipes are created equal, right? Wrong! 🤣 Just a hair too small. So what I did was take a circ saw and cut a slit lengthwise down the pipe allowing it to spread open just a little farther and oiled up the inside of the pipe to aid in removing it once I had the washer, seal, and boot seated. I hope this helps anyone who runs into the same problem.

You just saved me $700 sir. I will say the pipe did not work for me, for some reason the 1 1/2 was too small? I have a 2004 VTX1300c. I used electrical tape wrapped around the shock to use as its own ramrod. I pulled a crappy Chinese made seal out where someone who owned the bike before me had replaced it and it never sealed properly. The 20 year old Honda one was still intact on the other side so I went and bought the OEM ones. Cost me $60, but I saved so much doing it myself I thought it was worth it. With this and the brakes I have saved about $1000 watching your videos.
@TwoWheelRocco6 ай бұрын
Happy all went well. I know that schedule pipe you can't find it no more. It's a little too small. Sometimes I'll cut down the side of the pipe and then I could open it up a little bit to use that. Before you tear everything apart, sometimes it just a piece of dirt under the seal that causes it to leak. I had that happen on my last VTX. All that's needed is a small piece of plastic (I cut it out of an old plastic milk bottle or gallon jug) in the shape of a hook. Then stick it under the fork seal and pull it all the way around the seal to clean anything that's stuck in there. It worked for me twice and the seal quit leaking fluid. It's worth a try and can save you alot of time. Not saying it works for everyone, but it's worth a try.

Hey Rocco, enjoyed watching your video again! It had been about a year since last watch. Am getting this done this time. Noticed in the video you have an engine guard I like! Where would I be able to get one like that. It's not "wide"" but just enough. Don't care much for the bulky ones.Thanks again for the video. God bless and Jesus loves you, John 3:16-17 (KJV)

@@TwoWheelRocco While doing this job, can you take the whole front-end off without any adverse effect such as losing balance of the bike? I could put a jack stand under it but I don't know if I could go that high with it, and I do have the small ones. Had trouble getting one of the caps off but used a center punch and smacked it a few times for the cap nut had been stripped by previous owner. While I'm in the process of the thing at hand, am going to change the tire at the same time. The only reason for the whole front-end come off. Thanks so much for your help in advance, Jesus loves you, John 3:16-17 (KJV)

@@TwoWheelRocco Sorry took so long to respond but all in all, I did do all at one time the fork seals and the tire. I did jack it up like you show in the video and took whole front-end off. I wouldn't recommend others doing it that way as you mentioned in you last reply, "But I guess if you're careful and it feel secure" that's just how I did it. While in there, replaced tire and front brakes as the brakes were soaked in fork oil. It really amazed me how easy it was after watching your video! Have been riding nicely since August and no leaks. While I was it I also replaced the slider bushings and all other junk. But I didn't have time to wait on eBay to send the stuff. Got the OEM stuff, cost was high, and did the job and turned out well. Saved a considerably large labor bill. Thanks for all you hard work, Jesus loves you, John 3:16-17 (KJV)

I took my front wheel off and removed both as I did both of the seals. I like how you avoided that, easier and you had the other side to reset with. Did you take out the spring so that you could clean everything out? I did this without having to take that spring assembly out, however not that what you did was much extra work. I think that I will take that out next time. Thank you sir and keep up the great work. I saved about $600 for doing my own work on my seals. Well worth it!

Thanks for such an easy to follow video. I am having trouble removing the tube from the lower fork. I have pulled and rotated and pulled and rotated and it’s not budging at all. Also, whenever I pull up the upper tube binds binds to where I have to hit it at the top with rubber mallet to unstick it. Going at it for over an hour with no noticeable movement. All bolts removed, reviewed video multiple time to make sure didn’t miss anything. At an impasse, any advice greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Tried to rotate it hit it rotated hit it rotated hit it and it should go. Are usually use a red bucket and I'll just hit it to the floor and then turn and slam it up. usually that's what works. Give yourself a break and come back to it. Spray a little penetrating oil and let it sit and then try it again. Let us know how it works out. I can get frustrated be patient happened to me once that I remember how they came.

Hey Rocco! Thanks for giving me the courage to do the seals on my vtx. Saved several hundred dollars. But geez I ran into problem after problem. Caliper bolt had been rounded off. Tried to drill it and use a screw extractor, only to have it break off in the bolt. Finished the right side. But had to split the pvc from home depot. Evidently there has been a slight change to the id of the pvc. Then i get to the left side and the head of the hex screw at the bottom of the fork is rounded out. Guess I will try to figure that one out tomorrow. Great video!!!

Thank for such a well done video on this work. I watched a different video on doing the seals on my Valkyrie and it took me two days ! Your video made the job so much easier to do...done in a couple of hours. I have one question. I can just get the threads started on the drain plug (holding the fork in my hands, not installed on the bike yet). The piston the screw goes into just spins, I can't tighten it. Is this normal? When will it stay so I can tighten the drain screw? PS...I didn't have thread sealer so I used teflon tape, maybe that was a bad idea?
@TwoWheelRocco Жыл бұрын
