How to hook a set of double trailers? If it's done properly it shouldn't take long or be too difficult. Some of the most important things to do while hooking a set is making sure you are perfectly aligned before dropping your dolly or hooking.
So important things to remember while hooking your set of doubles one never yank or pull on equipment because you could call yourself an injury. Also make sure you're hooking up your service and emergency air in line so that you will have breaks while driving. Also make sure you do wind up that landing gear and that penile Hook is truly hooked!
Hopefully you find this helpful and you can learn a few tips or tricks yourself to make it easier to hook your set of doubles!

When lining up doubles to hook them, just remember, it's all about the tires. If the tires are lined up, you're good to go.

I got my career starting driving truck for a FedEx Ground contractor. Teamed for 2 years and ended up finding a local job pulling doubles. Just got tired of teaming and being out for 5-6 days. FedEx is the only company that I know that uses airbags on their dollys and trailers along with a parking break. I always waited for the dolly to air up first than back underneath of the trailer. The place I'm at now use all spring ride trailers and dollys. Have to prop something underneath the tire or dolly crank wheel to chalk it in place.

We are so blessed that our contractor works with us. Right now we are 2-3 days a week and run 10-18 weeks straight for peak. We both had worked for Conway now XPO prior. The stress is so much less at FedEx. We both live the air ride everything. Does make things smooth!

This is ideal, just started a week and a half ago. Problems i run into: trailers are too close so i can't lower the trailer, have to ask the yard dog to move it. Too tight so i have to drop my second trailer, my dolly then hook up. Can't find the trailers sometimes, especially empties. People keep taking them so i have to find new ones sometimes. Had it where the dolly was red tagged so i had to find another one and hook up all over again lol. Just to name a few but i'm trying to get better everyday, i like the job and i'm patient so theres that at least. This video helped me by the way, never hooked up before i even got the job so thanks a lot!

So glad this video was helpful. Yes I got the perfect set when it was time to make the video but that doesn't offen happen. Keep the positive attitude. With time you will learnore tricks to the trade. I (Angela) have been driving amd hooking doubles for 13 years. It takes time. The first year isn't the can be frustrating to say the least. Always take you time. Never rush amd most importantly stay safe amd enjoy the adventures!

My suggestion just started driving 5 months current. When you can't crank the trailer you could always drag it out.. but thats only if it's low enough to connect.

Only problems I run into now: something wrong with the trailers to where it won’t pass at the inspection check or dolly problems (leaking air, lights etc.) They finally updated it to where you can locate your trailers through the app. And even dispatch yourself 😄.

Thank you so much for your kindness and encouragement! Amd a big thanks for promoting mybchannel to new students. I worked for Conway now XPO prior to FedEx. I competed in truck redo's regularly including state level placing 3rd. I also trained driver on how to do a p&d route. Honestly I found it hard to teach some men. They would struggle taking directions from me as a young small female. So I never thought past that. Did you get to check out the other videos for unhooking and what not to do when hooking? @@SimpleLivin Congrats on your competition achievements. Yes I did check your other videos. I like a lot your rest area safety tips. We usually have a couple of ladies in our cohorts, is it OK to show this video to our class during Driver Safety lecture? I think you did awesome job comparing to what I use currently from JJ Keller. In my program we have three female instructors and honestly they doing wonderful job. "Tough guys" I put in "difficult student" category and remind them that respect is expected from everybody, so any misbehavior is a grounds for dismissal from training. I remind them that they enrolled in our course to learn and my instructors can help them get the results so listening and following directions is in their best interest. Again, thanks for what you doing. Are you still on the road during this difficult times?

Its because of a miss hook most if the time either the drive high hooked or the jaws didn't fully lock. Both can and should be caught with a proper pretrial inspection. Crazy enough it is possible to drive hundreds of miles before coming detached.

Thanks, Have a great Labor Day \o/

So we hook them up a bit different in Australia. My question is why don't you just back your dolly up to your dog and hook it up till it's locked using the truck instead of taking it off the truck? Then just back your lead up as usual and then do all your lines and lights? Seems like more work doing it your way
@SimpleLivin
@SimpleLivin 2 жыл бұрын
Great question!! Because of weight distribution the dolly can't be hooked to the front of the trailer before being hooked to the rear of a trailer. It must be anchored to the front trailer or the nose (the front triangle) will pivet upward in the air. More work but its a must for safety and the equipment won't work any other way.
@Xtralge4ee
@Xtralge4ee Жыл бұрын
Sorry didn't realize you'd replied. So in response to that why not do it how we do it over here then, as in hook up your lead to your dolly then back the dolly under your dog trailer? It's even less work then what I'd said before. That's how I do it and nearly everyone else I know does it.

@@SimpleLivin awesome! But the way you procedure in the video is WRONG, WHY? Because 1- before you connected to a Trailer you need to check Door is closed why because in Case you connected and Door is open someone can get knock out inside the trailer. 2- Once you Connected into a Trailer you need to double check the Door still closed, why? Because something managers open the door again because they forgot some cases in the dock. That's the reason why last year someone die on Matuche Base in New Jersey. So for me this video is GOOD, But, next time make sure you have in the video as first checking the Door, and you know this if you really as good as you describe yourself ans your team partner.

I understand the concern from your first comment. I appreciate it. No need to treat me like a rookie. Unfortunately we have witnessed a catastrophic event when a team member lost sight and crushed his mate between the dolly. We have also see other major injuries do to folks rushing and or not putting safety first. Just out here doing our best to help others make the trucking life style a little easier. Also help others get a little insight. Many folks have been encouraged to get their license.

How long have you been driving for FedEx? I have been with them for 6 years and pull triples. I got hired with No experience and got trainer. I am usually a solo driver. I don’t do team driving often. I had to do a team driving a few weeks ago. I kicked the co driver out of the truck in the yard. I told the idiot to check the trailer and make sure there isn’t anybody in the trailer before pulling away from the door and he said that he doesn’t need to listen to me.. he pulls away and there was a package handler in the trailer that Jumped off and grabbed on to the Schute that’s tossing down the boxes. I kicked him out. No exceptions. I love working for FedEx.

We have been with FedEx for 3 years and LOVE IT! There is very little stress or drama. We are blessed to both be Experience and Independent drivers as well as husband and wife before coming to fedex to team. I dont know if I could ever really trust someone else. I glad you did the right thing and kicked that driver to the curb. Sounds like he has no business being a driver. I have never pulled triples but would love to give it a try. Simple Livin I drive out of Utah. The driver told me he was a safe driver and didn’t have to listen to me. He told me he had been with Fedex for 7 months and that he came from C.R.S.T. Before and Talked to a previous co driver that was from the same company before Fedex. I told the unsafe co driver to go back to C.R.S.T. Because he still has a lot to learn.. I have been With FedEx long enough that I am able to back up the trailer with the dolly connected to it and back it up to the second trailer.

All of fedex equipment is air ride Suspension. When the equipment is dropped out and the air is released it drops the equipment lower so sometimes it causes a gap if you do not air up the dolly. It's much easier to connect the airlines then crack the landing gear

There is no need to hook the dolly air lines to the dummy/blocking gladhands on the dolly if you back the dolly under your tail trailer before hooking the dolly air lines to the lead trailer. I've been doing it that way for 35 years.

Mabe your dolly doesn't have air ride. If you allow the doll to air up before back under it releases the pressure on the landing making it easier to crack up. Also need to release the press while uncoupling the set. We typically drop one set then rehook
