mmm ok, with the 360 app open, unplug and then plug the controller back into the computer and see if it sees it. If that doesn't work, try restarting your computer with the controller plugged in, and then open up the 360 controller app and see if it shows up. Then maybe try a different cable if you have one.

Hello no you need the micro USB to USB cord. If you mac is fairly new, you may be able to connect it via bluetooth. My Mac is too old, it won't connect.

Hey there, it should work with wired controllers as well, since you are essentially creating a wired controller by plugging in the USB cable to the Xbox one controller to connect to the computer.

Hi Marc, if you have a new iMac just get a newer controller it will connect wirelessly via bluetooth. I still have my old gen 1 Xbox ONE controller, which doesn't connect to my 2019 iMac. Hello Alyssa! No that is pretty much all I can offer as far as help goes. I wish I could do more. :) These are the tips again to sum up: Install the App, With the app open unplug then plug in your controller, to see if it gets recognized, restart computer with controller plugged in, then open app and see if it is recognized, make sure to go to system preferences, "Security" to see if it is asking you to allow an app to run.

Matt Taylor Variety none of the things worked, but it turns out i could’ve just used the bluetooth connection on my macbook the whole time 😅 supposedly the bluetooth pair up only works with xbox one s controllers (: all you have to do is hold down the sync button on the controller and check the bluetooth settings for “xbox one controller”. you don’t have to plug it in at all

Hi there! Since your computer is newer, you can bet an Xbox One S or Xbox One X and the controller should connect via bluetooth to your macbook air. Did you download the 360 controller app and install it? Check the system preferences security and privacy and see if there is an app that it wants you to allow. try unplugging and plugging the controller in with the app open. Also try restarting the computer with the controller plugged in, and then open the app.

@@Evisuusg Yes it is micro usb to USB. If it is the gen one controller it is not USB C. It is micro USB. If it is a series S it is USB C to USB. But If you have a series S xbox the wireless controller should connect via bluetooth natively if your mac is new enough.

Mmm I am not sure why that would happen, it appeared for me. But you installed the driver/app right? What happens when you open the app up and plug in the controller? "No devices found"? Today went and bought a newer xbox controller with bluetooth capability - and have connected successfully to my new mac mini running big sur. Got Goldeneye N64 up and running using openemu - but could not begin the game as the buttons seemed to have no effect - despite showing as connected in the bluetooth section of System Preferences. Deleted openemu as I'd had the zipfile for awhile - and downloaded a newer version - which my mac then refused to open and run. The game ran fine with a wired controller on my old mac 2015 macbook pro - which I no longer have. If I had any hair I'd be pulling it out right now :) Having spent night after night trying to get Goldeneye working on my new mac - I've basically given up - and will content myself with playing Perfect Dark on my xbox one. Yeah, most likely each game you play will have some sort of menu/preferences where you will have to calibrate your controller and assign buttons. I had to do that with Mike Tyson's punchout. And I know other emulator games make you do it.

I don't know specifically for that controller, but go to system preferences, then Security and Privacy, And then on the General Tab, you will probably have something from an app by Drew Mills. Hi there, blue tooth will only work with newer xbox's. The XBox One S and the XBox One X. Mine is first gen, so too old. That is why I have to connect via the usb cable. Did you download the 360 controller app and install it? Check system preferences, then Security and Privacy to see if there is an app you need to allow. Then bring up the controller app by opening system preferences, you should see in in the lower right corner or something. Open that up, and plug in the controller and see if it finds it. No keep your Xbox unplugged.

I imagine it would. I haven't tried specifically. I have only used it with emulator games, and I know it works with Fortnite. Once you have it connected to the MAC it should work with most games. You may have to configure it once in Steam, so it works properly.

Hi Joel, in the video I used the usb cable, I don't use the wireless function, you need a special wireless dongle in order to use the wireless. I think the best way is to use a wire. :) So no, it doesn't have to be wireless.

Go to system preferences and then security and privacy. See if there is an app it wants you to allow. Then try restarting the computer with the controller already connected. See if that works. If not, don't know what to tell you.

Hey David, I am not sure I haven't had a 360 Controller in ages. But you need a USB cable. It will have one end that plugs into the controller and then the other end needs to be a USB to plug into the computer. I just bought the controller to test this out. But I think my controller doesn’t work. I went to system preferences to the Xbox 360 controller app, and then tried to connect the controller by then, but it says no devices found, while it’s still connected to my Mac. I don’t know if there is a way to fix this, but I think I’m gonna get a refund and try and buy a wired controller that works.

mmm yeah so I used my wireless but connected it to the usb cable to the computer. mmm not sure why it still said "no devices found". But if I think of something I will let you know. You can try a new controller for sure. But it doesn't have to be an XBox One controller you can try a 360 controllers as well. Let me know how it goes. :) And Happy Holidays!

Matt Taylor Thanks Matt! I also forgot to mention that the controller I bought is a Power A Xbox one controller. So it needs to be wired. But for some reason even if I connect the micro USB in the controller and then in the computer, the app still doesn’t recognize it. I tried using a downgraded version of the app. But it didn’t work. Also, this is my first controller, so I don’t have any other one but the one I bought. What do you think? You know what? I thought this controller would work on a Mac since it has a USB cable. I don’t know. What do you think?

Hi Satish, there are a few things you can try. Restart the computer with the controller connected. Then open the 360 Controller app. Also, check System Preferences then Privacy & Security and see if it wants you to allow an app. How old is your mac, what operating system are you running? If it is pretty new, you may be able to connect natively via Bluetooth.

did you download the app? Check System Preferences, Security/Privacy and allow the Drew Mills app? you can try restarting the computer with the controller plugged in and see if that works. What year is your Mac? and what year is your xbox one controller?

@@sheryn890 What game is it? There is probably a controller setting for that particular game that allows you to map the buttons correctly. It will be in the settings portion of whatever game you are playing.

No I haven't used it on Mac Mojave. I am still on High Sierra. But as long as you can install that Xbox 360 Controllers app, and it shows up in your system preferences, I don't think it would be the operating system. But it certainly is possible. :)

These are the tips again to sum up: Install the App, With the app open unplug then plug in your controller, to see if it gets recognized, restart computer with controller plugged in, then open app and see if it is recognized, make sure to go to system preferences, "Security" to see if it is asking you to allow an app to run. How new is your XBOX ONE? And how new is your Mac? Depending how how old they are, you may just be able to connect natively and wirelessly via Bluetooth.

I've downloaded the latest version of the driver from the link, and ticked the 'enable driver' box. When connecting the USB cable, my pad vibrates but doesn't get picked up. The 'pretend to be a xbox 360 controller' box is greyed out too, so I'm unable to tick that option. I've also allowed the security block.

Apparently it has to be a certain type of micro SD chord? I have one that it is only a few inches long. It's not one that would be used to plug in to the Xbox with to play. Just one to update the pad via the Xbox.

Once your controller is charged you shouldn't need to keep it plugged into the charger. Or just use batteries. But it does need to be connected to the computer via the usb cable/cord.

one what? This tutorial is all about connecting the Xbox One. As far as the app goes, no, but you don't need a different app that app even thought it is a 360app works. With that said, if your controller is new enough and your Mac is new enough, the wireless controller will connect via bluetooth.
