You don’t need a separate wallet. You just fund the neutron like I mention in the video. Cost depends on the amount of data on your site and traffic. Most average sites seem to be a few dollars a year if that.

Hello, Fantastic Video. Can I ask you if there is a speed difference compared to normal hosting? I own some webshops and these are hosted on a Clous servewr which is very fast. This is also important for Google rankings. What is your overall thougt on this please?

I did not do a before and after speed test, but I also did not notice and different in the page load time. In other words, it did not seem slower at all. As far as current site ranking with google, you probably would need to do 301 redirects because the hosting location would technically change. I would suggest uploading a test site and playing with the options.

No, The main difference I see is actually a good one and that is when you update a site, the blockchain seems to force the browser to load the update site. A very aggravating issue in WEB2 hosting is telling your customer that they need to do a hard refresh so that the browser will show them the latest updated info. Seems with ICP hosting that is already thought-out and not an issue.

Thanks! You also know how to upload files like a JPEG to a canister? I got it nearly done but couldn't go through the last step which was uploading it.

The last step would be to navigate to your project folder. Example, if you put the assets folder, html, images etc. in a project folder called "Cheesywebsite" Then you would navigate to that "Cheesywebsite" folder through the Terminal and then run this command: dfx deploy --network ic --no-wallet

That deploy command is what uploads your contents to the canister. Assuming you followed all the other steps, that should work.

I asked WordPress Support. A mod responded and said that will never happen. At least not by WordPress. He said it would have to be a completely new project since it cannot be ported to ICP.

I don't believe so. I'm not to sure that the canisters support PHP. I know they support html/css/java and Juno I believe. I'm sure that platforms similar to Wordpress or Wordpress clones are in the works. ICP is just so much more secure so I believe the process to implement something like Wordpress needs to flow differently.@@ColinEditz

Honestly? Hosting a website like this will never reach mass market. This workflow is just ridiculous. This is like Internet in 1970ies and will fail. What people want: 1) go to a website 2) log in with username and password (or use a service like AppleID) 3) klick on a website template and edit it 4) klick on publish What people expect? - a fully and perfectly responsive design, a database connection - a simple migration process that moves files and databases from your old web hoster to the new one. Any further steps than the above mentioned ones will keep users away from icp. It is easier to create a website on an Amiga from 1992 than this.

Lmfao dude, web hosting and web dev is never easy if you don't pay extra bucks, all these are BaaS companies. You want to pay? Go directly to AWS or self hosting and tell me if its not a pain in the ass more complicated than ICP. Hosting will be always importan in terms of security. Its what ICP has advantage over Web2. 1) Go to a website = thats a BaaS company. Meaning they will charge you!

There may be but I do not know where one might be. It would partially depend on the amount of traffic to your site.
