I have a question about the initial wifi login. what if i don't know the ssid and passcode to a setup and i want to make initial setup without compiling the sketch? how do i do it? I was thinking of WPS -if the wifi router supports it. But even if it is supported how do i go setting it up maybe through a web page?

The way of WiFi setup you are expecting is possible but that needs different code. We have not uploaded the tutorial for that. We will upload it soon.

Yes, there are many different ways to operate nodeMCU from external network. The easiest ways you can achieve this is by using blynk IOT platform.
