Good info Carson. Good to see you are sharing the safety concerns regarding the T.0 & LNDG of the Mavic Mini. I do wonder how many folks out there are aware of how DANGEROUS those spinning props are to their finger health? Saw one video online, where a newbe Mavic Pro owner, lost control of his drone, which wound up on the ground, props still spinning, and he reached down to retrieve his drone. Came up with a mass of bloody fingers. Not pretty. From the angle of the shot, I'm guessing he had a Go Pro running to film his flight. By the way, did you have to recalibrate the IMU? That would be a point to note in a future video.

Cool video. There is another way to hand launch which I like. Just spin up the props (both sticks pulled inward or outwards) and then just give it a toss in the air. Don't worry it won't drop like a rock to the ground. Somehow as soon as it leaves your hand it automatically goes into hover mode.

First day with my Mavic Mini (yesterday) I stuck my finger through the propeller guard. I was trying to launch off a railroad tie (wood) and the Mini wouldn't lift off. I reached for the drone and when I finally got it to move it reached back and bit me. I'm glad I had the guards on or I might have got more than three stripes across my index finger. It bled a bit and still hurts today. Hopefully from this video I will learn how not to get chewed up by my Mavic Mini. Thanks, Carson, for helping teach an old dog new tricks. Rich

I use an app called UAV Forecast. It gives you current weather information based on your GPS location or you can type in a different location, as well as estimated wind speed and gust speed at the altitude you select. I find it helpful because as you probably know, wind speeds are usually higher once you get above trees and other objects that block and slow the wind. It isn't as accurate as something that gives you real time wind speed but it has worked well for me. You can set the warning limits so if for example you have a Mini and a Mavic Pro or Air 2, you can change the point at which it will tell you it isn't good to fly die to wind or other conditions. The free version will let you see a 24 hour conditions estimate including how many satellites should be available in your area. There is a paid version that gives you a few more features like setting favorite locations and longer range forecast but the free version does all I need it to.

Yesterday I started my drone and held it with my hands tightly, then suddenly the motor started rotating at full speed still I didn't let it go and it was not turning off when I was using my controller....Then I used the emergency shut down to stop it by turning upside down.. Can you explain me the reason for that?

For mavic air I let hover just above head height and grab it from front bottom just under the front camera. Once got hold on it, hold down the landing stick and the engine would should shut in seconds. Felt safer and secure that way.

Have you tried the cool guy hand launch of pulling the sticks down and in or out with one hand to start the motors then either taking your hand out from under the drone quickly or giving it a slight toss? I haven't tried it myself but saw a video of a guy doing it. It looks like as soon as the sensors no longer detect your hand underneath the drone it instantly starts flying. I kind of want to try it for some reason but have a fear of watching my Mini fall to the ground with the motors still at idle speed. Personally for launch I use sort of a combination of the methods you showed where the drone is resting on my palm but I slightly steady it with the tips of my thumb and one finger. I have big hands so I don't know how well it might work for others. Great video and good safety tips on how to do it with minimal risks.

Funny I just commented on this preferred method for me when I hand launch. As soon as you toss it in the air it somehow instantly goes into a hover and doesn't fall to the ground like a rock. Give it a try. I've done it dozens of times without any issues. Besides it's more fun.

Just added the mini to my stable, nice little quad. I was taken aback when I first tried to hand land it, I'd forgotten about the downward sensor. 2nd try I just held my hand out and brought it down. Not as simple as a Phantom, but it works.

The last method of grabbing and flippin the drone mid-air could also potentially damage the gimbal and hurt you or other ppl around you if you accidentally let go of the drone or the drone slips out of your fingers.

For years a standard way of landing a drone has been to quickly grab the drone in a hover without any stick input, fast enough that the drone doesn't have time to gain altitude as a result of it seeing your hand beneath it, and immediately flipping it upside down. Btw, there is no such thing as "a slab of cement." Cement is a powdered ingredient in concrete. However. if the slab of concrete has metal reinforcing bars in it, it is not a good surface to take off from because it will interfere with your signal. Good video, though.

6:00.... You're out your mind... This way is the best way to land, you're just doing it wrong. You bring the drone down close to you.... Lower than eye height.... And just pick it out of the air with the same finger position how you launched it, then tilt it 90 DEGREES. Easy NEVER even got close to hurting myself.
