Quick tip, sew a vis17 panel on the inside of your boonie/patrol cap. It's very handy in the field.

Remember the Germans on the OST Front faced this very issue while fighting the Russians in the 40’s. They had to wear winter whites and both side did. They created coloured arm and head bands. They would designate a colour of the day/week and also place it on arms/helmets. It was effective, but like it’s been said before; we are always fighting the last war. Unfortunately it was in the ME the west is now trying to quickly pivot into Northern terrain and SEA.

Ideally your guys would save the same uniforms, something other than multicam (AOR2 top, tan pants, for example) that you planned out in advance as a way of IFF. Blue tape works but it sticks out a lot. I think patches are too small and too hard to see most of the time.

Just watch combat videos from Ukraine, you clearly see that they mark themselves with bright faction colors even though they are wearing camouflage. I strongly suggest that in a SHTF situation you wear emblems that represent your beliefs or who you align with. On all my "militia" gear, I wear subdued Christian flags, not American flags.

Hard to say. Gang tatoos would be one thing that would be a giveaway. Not sure fire, but, a start. How are they acting? Do they have a severed head or scalp on their belt. Yeah that's a meme, but, it could actually happen. Do they have scalps on their belts. Yes that was an adornment back in the day. Body language could be another indicator. Gang bangers often have distinctive body language. Military has another distinctive body language. So do police. Especially when going into condition orange. None of this is conclusive. But, they are pointers.
@SaintClutch Жыл бұрын
As a civy I’ve thought about the same things. Without IR most things like color branded brassards cut both ways when being observed by a hostile force. Your gang of prepared minute men; military or not are gonna look very similar. Let me guess a multicam minimalist PC and an AR15. Also that dude you light up might not be military but could be a vascular surgeon.

My only issue with using magnification (or weapons light) to ID someone is that you just flagged a possible friendly. Yes you can keep your booger hook off the trigger, but I prefer to keep a small set of binoculars or monocular (or a separate light vs weapons mounted light) for ID'ing someone. I do keep lights on my guns, but that's for lighting up what I'm shooting at. Good stuff though. Always giving us good things to consider. Thank you!

ID your head. ID yourself 360°. Always have a challenge and response. Always have no-light, no nvg methods of ID. Stick with cheap stuff like tape, bandanas, pieces od clothes. Normal flashlights. You may need to provide it for those that don't have. And have spares. Most important make everybody know what others are doing and how they look like and what will happen if... Keep the same people on the same tasks/shifts do they start to know themselves.

If your prepared at all, you will have coms and coms discipline in place with any and all team members in the field. Ham radio is cheap dependable and easily charged with portable solar panels. If coms are not available, then we just never lost sight of our team members for any reason. Your best chance in a fire fight is your buddies and a coherent field of fire. If the team does split, make sure to plan a route and rally point Anyone that says things like "I'll just smoke em" has never been in the position to take a human life. Not someone I would accept as a team member. Murder is still murder when things go badly. The last thing I would do is put anything bright colored or reflective on my person to give away my position. I can see the use in that if defending a fixed position were the enemy could mix in with friendlies in close combat. Please don't ever fly the American flag upside down for any reason, it's disrespectful to men and woman that gave they're lives to defend what it stands for no matter the circumstances.

The easiest way is not wear the same uniforms as your enemy. Greens and tans. It’s the way it’s always been for us since birth. Seriously, Russia has 85 camos and they chose the exact same as their enemy.

@Fat Head: You don’t remember Russia’s “Little Green Men” operations?
@AlexanderGarbuz Жыл бұрын
After about 2-3 days in the field all camo looks about the same. Not to mention that from 300 meters you won't be able to tell what camo they using. But the main point he is trying to make is this is not for armed forces. This is for prepared civilians. As civilian/militia you won't have standard cammo/uniform so you will need a way to identify everyone on your side even in poor visibility conditions.
@fathead8933 Жыл бұрын
@@AlexanderGarbuz oh I’m aware. I just for-see more force on force if prepared citizens are carrying rifles. You don’t need to match camos completely. Just adhere to a color scheme. If your guys are wearing green, you can just say don’t shoot the green guys. If you’re just SHTFing it, you and your buddies should probably be squared away enough to have atleast a tan and a green set of clothes. If not maybe the flavor of the week subcompact/pcc/non NATO caliber rifle probably shouldn’t be a focus. Not accusing you personally, the community as a whole has problems with this. If I was starting off I would get a set of woodland BDUs first and a set of multicam next. My reasoning is based off a threat matrix. Strength x probablity= threat. Your main threat is other Americans trying to rob you violently. Idk about you but I’m not too concerned about fratricide while going to Walmart. I’m not hunting in teams while getting food. So I don’t require IFF to go about my day to day. So the next two threats are the US govt and a NATO based alliance. The second would probably rely on a total collapse of the govt and Europe wanting to control the nukes. Well those two potential threats both wear Multicam variants. With the exception of marines. Who can wear woodland digitals. Your uniform doesn’t even have to be military uniforms but they need to prescribe to a green tan system. I know the bright skin tight tshirts and flannel under your armor is the vibe but it’s hindering in the real world not helping. Yes you still need camo in an urban environment before someone throws that out. Honestly, a bunch of guys wearing carharts are a uniform.
@AlexanderGarbuz Жыл бұрын
@@fathead8933 jeans and carhartt jacket with reflective runners arms bands.would be a good start I would not worry about cammo, instead I would spend time and money on communication equipment, medical training, areal surveilance platforms, night vision, etc. And yes, I agree with your threat assesment.

@@albertkinney8021 a few things to consider: 1. if you think about full scale civil war then you will issued something and will be told how to use it. Most likely you won't be improvising with tapes ans shit like this. 2. if you talking about civil unrest and local community based defense force / militia then it won't be democrats vs. republicans.
