Just found a whole box of corms in my garage, which I must have bought 2 years ago before I moved house. Couldn’t even remember ordering them let alone which variety. They’re still alive. Somehow and I found this link, so I’m sorted.

I had never heard of a cyclamen before I found you on the internet. Who would of thought that they would be as interesting underground as above. I can now identify them in my grocery store florist area but have yet to find and at a nursery. Thank you for sharing. Love your content!❤️🇨🇦

Hi Royalize The Plant Man, C. graecum are apparently quite a tender plant, but I’m yet to lose any to the cold. I’ve been growing them in my unheated greenhouse in Somerset for 6 years now. It goes down to -5/6C over winter and they seem ok with that. I wouldn’t take my chances by leaving them outside but in the greenhouse they survive. I’m in the south of the UK, near the coast and in a very sheltered field surrounded by trees so quite cosy really 🌻

Great presentation! I have a question. I have a several thousand, i believe, Hederifolium. Nearly 4000 potted up and more waiting to come out of flats. The thing that I'm wondering about is that a small number of juvenile tubers are rather an elongated plum shape, taller than wide. I'm trying to keep track of these with tags. Could these be something other than Hederifolium? Maybe they will just grow out of their nonconformal shape. Bloom time of my plants vary. Some start as early as July 17 w/o leaves, others prefer to start blooming in September and have leaves at the same time. I've had one plant hold flowers through the end of November. They seem to have roots mostly on the upper side although I have found one with roots coming out the side at only one point. I don't know if that's because of damage or maybe it's not a hederifolium. My growing location has a Warm dry Summer Mediterranean character with Cool wet Winter. Temps do dip well below freezing occasionally in the winter -9.5C. Coldest -21C Thanks for being such a wonderful teacher. I do consider myself one of your students.

Hi •, nature always has its own agenda, sometimes plants are reluctant to flower if well fed. Just a couple of questions- have you been giving it regular feeding and has the plant grown a lot of lush foliage this year? I’ll try to work out what’s going on. All the best Robbie 🌻

@@user-yx7dp2pl8t sorry for the late reply, Just a couple more questions, apologies, how many stalks does it have? and is it kept inside or out? Either way if you pot it on into a larger pot it will probably go mad next year. I have found that they only put on a small amount of growth in the first few years and they suddenly grow 2m stalks. I will help you to get it to flower next year just need a bit more info, Robbie 🌻

Hi Harry Smart, as the long suffering Katy would say “please don’t encourage him” ! I have at least one of each on your list, apart from the C. thingummium (I’ll have to look that one up). Unfortunately they are all mixed in with my hederfolium and coums, labels all washed off years ago! It’s going to be a proper nerdy week of serious, intense identification. Something I’ve been meaning to do for a few years now, it’s always so busy over winter and spring that I don’t find the time until summer, so it waits another year! Apparently the best way to sort out your C. africanum from your C. hederfolium is to leave it outside over winter and see if it survives, if it doesn’t it’s an africanum!! Thanks for your message, C. thingummium made me laugh out loud 😃 all the best Robbie

I’ve got some outside and the corms/bulbs are the size of dinner plates, they are in flower now. Are they different to your indoor ones and my indoor ones which are just starting to come back to life now after resting over the summer? TIA
@stinkyditchnursery750
@stinkyditchnursery750 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Henry Edwards, your outside cyclamen the size of a dinner plate will be a cyclamen hederfolium. The indoor variety are cyclamen persicum, they start putting on growth late autumn with the flowers appearing in early spring. Many of the indoor persicums are forced into flower prematurely to sell over the winter. After a few years they tend to settle back to their natural cycle and flowers appear in spring as they do in nature. I hope this helps Robbie 🌻

Hi Robbie Question I’m moving to a house that has three conifers at the bottom of the garden. Could I grow cyclamen in them, if so what would be the best one ? I personally love Coum.
@stinkyditchnursery750
@stinkyditchnursery750 Жыл бұрын
Hi Brenda Bailey, cyclamen will do well under some conifers. Both Coum or hederifolium will work fine. You could plant both varieties to have some late summer flowers from the hederifolium and winter flowers from the coums. If you do plant both varieties put them in different patches, not all mixed in together as the hederifolium will over power the coums in a few years. An area for the coums and an area for the hederifolium only a couple of feet apart will work and should self seed and naturalise well. If after a few years you start to get hederfolium springing up with the coums just lift them and move them. If you just go for coums then cyclamen cilicium grow well with coums to give a longer flowering season (cilicium flower in autumn) and add a bit of fragrance. I hope this helps Robbie 🌻

Hi Marie Hammond, apologising for myself is a habit of a lifetime I’m finding hard to break! I was an unusual kid so didn’t really fit in at school, at quite a young age I started thinking I was constantly doing something wrong, still feel it now after all these years! Maybe it was my teachers, they didn’t really know what to do with me apart from tell me off a lot for being myself! I’ve always had lots of energy so, I was probably a bit of a handful, still am at times! But underneath the guy you see in the vids is a little boy that thinks he is going to be told off at any minute, even with all the lovely messages I get it’s a state of mind I’m finding hard to shake off, I’m working on it, thanks for your message, they really make a difference and yes, I do need a more cheerful camera person!! All the very best Robbie 🌻
