Nice to hear subscriber showcase is back! I might even shoot a video and chuck it to you. Approximately what time scale should the video be and what is the cut-off date does the video need to be sent in by.
@Kpaceguy2 жыл бұрын
5 to 10 minutes is a healthy time but if it's a tad longer it's fine. If you can send it by the middle of next week, first week of January, that would be great

@@Kpaceguy cheers mate 👍 just wondering are you likely to have several Showcases in 2023

@total plonker it's typically twice a year and they are very far apart

@@Kpaceguy not that my particular video is likely to be selected, but if I've got time I'll be sure to send a video in. Keep up the good work.
I heard you mention car audio, but seemed to emphasize home theater. I have a Tahoe that's a purdy night cruiser if you're interested in using it on here.

How do you do REQ without an audio interface? Do you have a video?

It has its own

So you plug the mic in the laptop, then it assesses the room?
@Kpaceguy2 жыл бұрын
@Adam yes you'll play a series of sweeps and it'll listen and assess
@danielwander6052 жыл бұрын
I still would think the best way to do it for 99% of people is a measurement microphone and REW. It really takes a trained ear to listen to frequencies and determine how much you need to cut or boost and what the Q setting should be. Its also a longer and harder process. With REW you can just take a sweep and right away you'll have a lot of the info. Take it a step further and you can use the EQ feature to let you know what filters to use either manually or automatically depending on what you have in your system. Granted there is a learning curve with REW, but the time is much better spent learning that rather than listening to a slow sweep with a pad and a pen. Then after some experience and experimentation you may be able to learn how to tune by ear based on what you've learned and what you're preferences are.
@Kpaceguy2 жыл бұрын
I'm hoping that if you care enough to try and fix peaks and nulls that you already had the ear to do it. Usually people who don't have an ear for it also don't care or hire someone. SOMETIMES. But I do agree with you. REW will be a lot more accurate than a lot of people although it doesn't take much to hear dips and peaks in a sweep and visually see what frequencies are causing the problem
@jamiet742 жыл бұрын
@@Kpaceguy But why wouldn't someone just use REW and a Umik-1?? The mic is around $100 and REW is free, It's obviously FAR more accurate than your ears. Almost all professional calibrators recommend usinga calibrated mic & REW, and these are people who do this for a living. people like Anthony Grimani,Mark Seaton, Keith Yates etc all use measurements to fine tune the response.
@Kpaceguy2 жыл бұрын
@ILoveCookies X I mean yes you'll get much better results with a software but you have to have some sort of ear to realize that you need REW or else you may think it already sounds good and isn't worth your time
@jamiet742 жыл бұрын
@@Kpaceguy almost every room needs some calibration adjustment - especially in the bass region. Personally I just cant understand why anyone would spend thousands of $$$ on equipment, but won't spend $100 on a mic and get the full potential out of their equipment For most people simply using REW to correctly position and time align their subs to achieve a fairly flat bass response BEFORE running their room correction software will be a game changer IMHO

@ILoveCookies X I say spend money on room acoustics. I see so much high end gear in rooms with nothing on the floors or walls
