When I see gold it usually has a strange shining, the way it reflects light is unique, it almost feels like it has an aura, like it shines and reflects light in the entirety of its dimensions. Almost like it always has a patina, but doesnt feel or look oily. Just pure shine This is how I recognize gold

See Monotonic Gold. The properties in Gold have a vast poyential range of Energy Potentials that are not in Mainstream textbooks, save possibly Physics. It literally can be heated in the Monotonic state and it leaves this Dimension, returns upon cooling. The studies are most amazing.

I got a real 4.5 total carat diamond ring picking. Marks were on outside of shank, French platinum marks, for about $20.00. It appraised for $30,000.00. I've been picking gold a long time and I know exactly what you mean. Gold has that certain look. The weight, feel, luster and construction are huge indicators. I can usually spot it a mile away when others pass it by. I've even trained my eye on internet auctions to look for telltale signs the piece is gold even when not marked. Got some FABULOUS deals like that. You just have to really train your eye and study a lot of pieces to get the knack for it.

Pay attention the settings, prongs, clasps, and types of stones. Gold also has a very distinct silky smooth satin feel with a nice weight. I do very well picking and even have got good at online auctions of telling what is gold and what isn't. My success rate is about at 90% in buying for gold. It's really in the details. Gold does not have a high brassy finish its actually dull compared gold plate and has a luster to it you can't replicate. Once you figure out all of this it becomes second nature.

Thanks for the video! I used to go to yard sales and auctions with my dad and was usually bored and sick of it. One time I recall finding a coin with a 14k pendant around it. It was at a bottom of a basket of cologne but I saw something shiny. It was only $.25 and was worth $80 in scrap. One good thing is to have a smartphone too. It pays for itself for sure!

Here is a fact about ALL jewelry. Jewelry has been made for a few thousand years. It has only been stamped for a little over 100 years. This means there is 400x more unstamped REAL jewelry than stamped real jewelry. If we go by a 4 thousand time line.
@Silverpicker

I hear your point, but Jewelry has been hallmarked for many hundreds of years. There are even American hallmarks that are 200+ years old, and that's just in America.

Try an estate sale, with bags of fake jewelry for $5. Just a regular sandwich bag, maybe 1200-1500 grams. There were silver plated, gold plated, gold filled, carrot gold and silver in them. Most of it was gold filled. So just over 8200 grams not counting the silver utensils and platters and I spent $30 for the 6 bags. Just the gold plated will more than pay buying everything and the chemicals needed to refine everything.

Finding pieces of precious metal jewelry by themselves is hard enough. Most of them I can tell by the tarnish, the weight, and the feel and rarely do I come across something that could be gold. Even then, many modern pieces have shines and feel that are similar to the ones as seen in the video that unless you're picking up obvious antiques, your chances of gold is slim.

I plan to retire in 3 years, and then plan to pick full-time. I have already put some of your videos to use. Please keep making these videos. They are not only very entertaining, but highly useful. One of the things I have learned is to ask,"do you have any other jewelry or anything else for sale that you are not displaying". Sometimes this will motivate the sellers to bring out items they were not sure they wanted to sell.

I have been doing this for decades and if you saw my finds you just would not believe me that I found a platinum watch at the Goodwill with 176 diamonds, but at the time you should have seen what it looked like, it was absolutely awful looking and that is exactly why they missed it, you could just imagine when I opened the back and it said plat10%rid I knew right then what it was and the diamonds were so crusted with oil and skin and soap every diamond looked fake because no light could get through to reveal just how beautiful it really was, I paid five bucks and it's worth about five to six thousand, yes that was an awsome find I agree, but if saw all that I buy at these estate sales garage sales and my favorite church sales these people absolutely have no idea what they are selling me and if they do know they still make a huge mistake when they sell it, it's absolutely amazing how no matter what year it is there is always someone selling gold for brass, diamonds for glass, and silver for plate. It takes time to know your garage sale gold otherwise you will buy what I call bogies in other words they won't pass the scrapper and you now have to sell it as costume jewelry and not instant cash. God I love garage sales, they just won't stop selling me their gold for 25 cents 50 cents on each piece, God I love gold!

Hey brother new gold collector, I’ve got an interesting piece a gold rope at least 4000 dollars in wait at current market... has 14 k Italy 🇮🇹 stamped on the clasp.everything looked very legit...brought it home looked up home cleaning remedy’s chose a vinegar baking soda blend.....did so and then..........nothing really just didn’t look like I cleaned it all that much.but the clasp with the stomp looked like a mix of silver and gold. First red flag 🚩 so I grabbed a 🧲 bingo I’ve never seen it grab something so strong. I’m guessing the center is stainless-steel. Lol best case . Anyways why do ppl get away with stamping 14 k on plated and electro bonded pieces 5 times dipped?

So I just inherited a shit ton of jewelry from someone who was a jeweler. I had no idea what I was doing looking over this stuff at first. Some of it felt heavy and looked very well made so I started doing research. Found tons of 14k and 18k labeled gold and probably 50 necklaces of real pearls in excellent condition as well as pure silver clasps. I have like 30 or 40 other pieces of that aren’t labeled but it is heavy and looked beautiful like gold so I have a feeling I’ve hit the jackpot. Now I’ve got to figure out the cheapest way to test it.

Glad you included the star, as I think a lot of people don't realize that lower karat gold can tarnish since pure gold doesn't. I have even seen real 10k gold with a bit of verdigris looking tarnish. That and white gold seem to get missed by the local thrift stores more than untarnished yellow gold. Gold vermeil, gold fill over sterling etc. I notice seem to tarnish a lot like silver in comparison to solid gold, too, though not sure if that's a real rule or just my experience.

A good way to show people how to see the life in gold is to show Even without light gold will still shine, so the idea is to remove it from the light an see if it still has a shine. If it's fool's Gold, it will look dull an lifeless if it's gold the it will still have a brightness to it even in the shadows, I've been a prospector for almost 5 years now an learnt verious tricks, but you're comment about gold having a soul I can relate 👍
