I use Dawn dish soap! Do not wet your body down, take Dawn dish soap and rub it on area that touched it. After costing skin, let it set for a moment, no more then 30 seconds. Rinse with as cold of a water as you tolerate, then wash area one more time. So far it's worked for me and a lot cheaper then the special ivy rinse soap.

orange Goop soap is the absolute best. It cuts through automotive grease and poison ivy/oak oil just was well. if using Dawn, i'd recommend a rag to scrub it off.
@dna39302 жыл бұрын
@@hrbacon I've used orange goop also. Even in a pinch, I've used isopropyl alcohol and a rag, it breaks down oils real good. Just stay away from open flame till dried.😱 I also use isopropyl alcohol to clean stove top from baked on oil from frying.

It's very fortuitous I found this video. I have a small patch of side yard that I'm about to go out to in order to remove poison ivy and maybe poison oak. One think I know I have is trailing blackberries, which I want to keep. It's great you showed them side-by-side! I wasn't sure I could tell them apart, but now I'm much more confident. Thanks.

Almost all berries have leaves of 3 so it’s helpful to know the difference so you’re not scared every time you see a plant with leaves of 3.
@MichaelPSakowski3 жыл бұрын
What is interesting is that the leafs ' edges actually resemble an oak tree's leaves. Otherwise, it is similar in appearance to poison ivy.

Surprisingly enough, people today use Rhus toxicodendron, the homeopathic form of poison ivy, for arthritis and joint pain. It helps when your joints stiffen with rest or are painful when rising, but the pain is relieved by movement. The 6C dilution can be found as one of the active ingredients in Arnicare Arthritis where it’s indicated for joint pain improved by motion and worsened by humidity.* Secondary uses include relieving small blisters that may occur with shingles, poison ivy, or cold sores.*

More close ups of the poison oak are needed. Your efforts are appreciated. Take a look at some of the other KZbin videos on this subject to get some ideas for an improved video. The first time I was affected by poison oak was in the hills southeast of Salem, Oregon. I believed poison oak was rarely found in the Willamette Valley. I now know different.

This video could be improved by talking about how the urushiol resin will bond to your skin and how long that will take and after it bonds to your skin then soap will not take it off. It could also be improved by really highlighting that the leaves are shiny, shiny, shiny, shiny and whether they're a green or red.

Because I never had it shown to me, I had been mistaking poisoned oak for a slight variation of poisoned ivy. I've been avoiding it automatically.

why do use wash with cool or cold water?

Very Well Done !! Would be helpful to identify where the Tautulain Hills Park & Rec is located (Search showed Beaverton, OR).

Okay, now I'm confused. As some variations of Poison Ivy has the mitten leaves as I like to call them as well. So how do you tell the difference between poison oak and the variation of poison ivy that has thumbs?

. i grew up in california in the fifties and can see poison oak, smell poison oak , hear poison oak , taste it , feel it , i have prophetic dreams warning me on the exact day that i will encounter it and i can communicate with the spirts of poison oak and because of all of this i left the Us and moved to europe , so i never ever have to encounter it for the rest of my life. 😂

How to identify poison ivy
@donmiles109channel3 жыл бұрын
Use a wash cloth....friction is important. Think auto grease.
@bkpickell2 жыл бұрын
No you are thinking about it all wrong. Auto Grease doesn't come mixed with poison. Once it touches your skin the reaction is started. Scrubbing will make it worse. You may get the oil off, but the allergic reaction will have already happened. Think of a peanut allergy. If you spit the peanut out are you okay?
@danielethier2015 Жыл бұрын
@@bkpickell urushiol is the oil present on poison ivy..oak and sumac. If it is properly washed off within a couple of hours, little or no rash will occur. Use a face cloth(a bit of cool water) heavily soaped with dawn dish detergent or gojo hand cleaner and wash area thoroughly then repeat procedure. And yes..in comparison, you wash the areas as if you were full of grease from working in a shop all day. I'm highly allergic to urushiol and since using this method, no more prednisone!!

All these leaves of three look too much alike to me. I guess I need a Nature expert by my side to identify these vicious plants correctly.

Why cold water,?
@SophieBird073 жыл бұрын
I think more importantly for skin as the hotter water might spread the oils more on the skin. Not sure though.
@rr-brown64452 жыл бұрын
Hot water opens your pores letting in more poison.

Why don't you kill it? I do, in the late falls. If you don't it spreads All Over Your Yard
@bkpickell2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I don't understand why they don't kill it either. Where I live if you don't get rid of it, you get a fine for the city. They will post a warning in your yard and you have ten days to get rid of it or a hefty fine. Because the city will come out and kill it for you.
