Hello Mr Moore Please may I ask about the Three Friends of Winter decoration used on Chinese and Japanese porcelain. Are there any examples of this decoration known to exist on ceramics prior to the Northern Song dynasty?

@jeremy3417 the decoration appears during on scrolls during the Northern Song, but I’m not away of ceramics of that era with it. A bit beyond my area. Certainly you see it on Yongle porcelains onward

@@MrStevenMoore Thank you for your kind reply. This form of decoration was used on black glazed porcelain bowls in the Dangyangyu kiln during the Northern Song dynasty, but as this symbolism was first mentioned in a Tang dynasty poem I was wondering if there are any Tang ceramics known to have this decoration

This is a great video, thank you! I’m also interested to know about chinoiserie and it’s history! Why did it come about? How do you identify chinoiserie from Chinese porcelain?
