Hello lovely there’s a reason you find them with Czech glass, for centuries Murano glass was sent to Bohemia to be fire finished.The Miotto family was only family to make Aventurine glass until the secrets were released in the early 1900’s. Your first beads are lovely 😊

I feel your pain on the misinformation of the glass beads ugh. I so wish I could send article screenshots to comments. Venetian glass is Glass within glass. And it's my favorite thing other than my addiction to jewelry. I collect statues of Venetian glass that I actually traveled over seas to aquire. I could show you examples of Wedding Cake beads where every detail you've just touched on isn't on the outside of the bead it's inside the bead. Murano beads are glass applied to/on glass. Venetian is art within glass. Murano and Venetian are two totally different techniques. True Venetian is absolutely stunning. I'm not even bringing up Lampwork beading. It's beautiful but also different entirely.

Your white beads are really beautiful and the detail magnificent. Thank you for this video. I recently acquired a light blue wedding cake necklace and every bead is different, unfortunately one of the beads was broken and has a hole in it but very interesting to see inside and the glass swirl where it was wound around the copper pin. Just beautifully made. I’ve restrung the necklace minus the broken bead and it’s lovely. I think I could get addicted to these beads.❤

Two blue beads are also a wedding cake. Two weeks ago I saw a necklace made of them in an antique store in Florence. This is very expensive copper sulfate glass. Made in the 40s, assembled from large in the middle to smallest at the edges with a brass lock. Their price was 120 euros

Thanks so much for the info, I didn’t know copper sulfate was used in glass! The Murano glass beads, they always are very saturated colors. Those 2 blue beads I showed are not Murano but are in the wedding cake style, the colors are not as vibrant and the craftsmanship is not the same. Thanks so much for watching!

Glassmakers from Aquileia, Italy , 1 500 years ago , 9th century, moved out to the islands that were built up to become Venice. Murano is a city where the handmade Glass has made, then sent out to other cities in Venice. The Byzantium and Middle East Master Glassman came to Venice around the 1,500 years ago time.

Also, Dichroic glass is a modern make of glass. It was started by use in the space ships and shuttles for their windows.

Thanks for the lesson on Murano Wedding Cake glass beads. Those tips are very helpful to confirm authenticity of Murano beads. Quick question… how is it that you can identify the small clear spacer beads and the black elongated beads as Czech beads. I’m confused why the Murano Italian glass makers wouldn’t use ALL of their own beads on their necklaces. Great information. Thanks for sharing.

Good question, I was told the Czech/Bohemia glass makers would fire finish the Venetian beads for them and I’m sure they traded or bought beads and made things with both types of beads. Czech made a lot of pressed molded glass and in those styles in the video, I don’t think the Venetian did beads like that. And you are very welcome :)

The Master Glassman were never allowed to leave Venice because of the secrets of their sand blends to make the glass!! Lived and died there, went to their graves with the secrets of their sand blends, past on to 1 or 2 family members.

There are some flat wedding cake beads I’ve seen but the biggest clue is the bead holes. Do they have white residue around the inside? If so not Murano. Thank you so much for watching!

If it has white inside the bead hole, it was not cleaned out correctly.

The wedding cake beads were used to really decorate wedding cakes,,,they began as miniature looking cakes.

I no longer trust it unless from an authorized dealer or direct factory because I can't tell the difference between high quality craftsmanship vs actual Murano. Nowadays nearly every glass is being called Murano it's no longer a brand but more of a style.

You are so right! It can be very difficult especially online when you cant feel the beads and see the bead hole. I didn’t even talk about the modern bead makers like the Chinese, they make so many imitations and they do sometimes call it “murano” when it’s not.
