Nice vid but you did not mention how you made your destination folders or how to modify or add destination folders. ??
@jasoneldridgephotography5 ай бұрын
@@MaxQ2989 you can use the file system already built into the operating system of your computer. Create the folder as you would normally and then just find it as your destination folder. You can also create a new folder from Lightroom by right clicking the destination folder and hitting "create folder" but all it does is bring up your file system for you to create it per the usual method. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

Better to put the files with the computer's file manager (Windows explorer/Mac's Finder) to the destination. This is done in seconds and you can instantly add them to the LR catalogue.
@jasoneldridgephotography Жыл бұрын
I have done it both ways over the years and still prefer using Lightroom. These days it happens super fast so it isn’t an issue. That said it is about finding a workflow that works for you. If using the explorer or finder makes more sense then it is certainly not incorrect. Thanks for watching.
@peterebel7899 Жыл бұрын
@@jasoneldridgephotography I used LR since version 1. In the early times I had issues. Doing it in the file system is super fast, then comes LR 🙂 where I take lot of advantage of the Library Module. I geo-tag every picture in LR map module, this gives location metadata for every file within seconds. Every picture gets some keywords as well which makes finding super convenient if needed.
@jasoneldridgephotography Жыл бұрын
@@peterebel7899 I tried really hard to do the keywords but I would forget and then have thousands! Hahaha. So…. Well, here we are. Lol
@peterebel7899 Жыл бұрын
@@jasoneldridgephotography I do use a stringent keyword structure mandatory for every file: - Event - Subject (see below) - I call it flow of year (the date without year) to be able to search i.e. flowers in blossom around mid April - The date comes with the file oo Camera - The location comes either oo camera or edited in the maps module. Subject: there is a structure to find down to the kw used. Just as an idea: i.e. animals-mammals-dogs-wulf i.e. persons-collgues-company i.e. artefacts-vehicles-cars- Ford-Model T You got it (the biological structure is identical to the scientific approach in taxonomy) If I need i.e. as a present for a friend horse pictures I just filter this person and the name of the horses. Bang, you have the pictures taken in 15 years to select from.

How can you help someone who has almost never used Light Room desktop except for mobile? Good video. I'm a photographer working on an easy way to catalog images & thumbnails for copyright? Sorry for the loaded question.

Thanks for taking the time to watch the video. I have a couple of other videos which might help you out. One is for sorting your catalog and the other is for keywording images. Both of those would likely be used if you are trying to put a catalog together for the purposes of copyright. Hello, I have a request. I have downloaded photos into Lightroom but when I go to Develop the photos are at the bottom of the bar but the rest including just the edit page is completely greyed out with no editing options. I can't even see the photo in the preview still just at the bottom of the bar. Please advise, thank you very much
@jasoneldridgephotography Жыл бұрын
The first question I would have is, did you move the photos on your computer at any point after you imported them onto Lightroom? Do you see a small exclamation mark on on an image (filmstrip at the bottom)?
@ataner4857 Жыл бұрын
@@jasoneldridgephotography No no I didn't move the photos or have exclamation marks I just can't open the photo at all for editing.

@@ataner4857 and you have signed into your Adobe account etc? If you have then I have no idea why it would all be grayed out. You might have to reach out to Adobe to find out more. Last thing I would consider is what camera are you using? Is it brand new and perhaps the RAW files are not yet able to be manipulated by Camera Raw?

I think you should have saved your files to an external harddrive, and not to the computers harddrive. For a new user of LrC that is essential. Saves space on the mac and make backups easier.
@jasoneldridgephotography Жыл бұрын
I save all of my images for a given year to my Mac hard drive to keep the computer running fast and efficient. At the end of every year I export it all and import it to a master catalog I have on an NAS. I also have a cloud backup for everything. It is important to find what works for you as everyone does it differently. This was just to show people how to import into Lightroom Classic. Thanks for watching.
