How to improve clutch control and gears

How to improve your clutch control and use the correct gear change on your driving lessons. Using clutch control and 1st gear to move off without stalling or juddering the car. I demonstrate how to move off from side of the road at slow speeds, just like on your driving lessons. Then I demonstrate how to move off quickly from either junctions or from roundabouts just like you will on your driving lesson.
Whilst I am working on the clutch pedal I also talk about what is happening to my gears, which gear to use and why I am using that gear.
Halfway through the video I switch camera shots so you can see my feet and the road ahead.
I am hoping this video will help you with your driving lessons, giving you a better understanding of clutch control and gear selection.

HEllo, is there any website that can book me for a driving test sooner than my scheduled test? My test is supposed to be in august. But i wanna do it sooner as I have been waiting for almost a year now. My test was supposed to be in june 2020 then was cancelled and been moved in november and then its been cancelled and Been moved in march and got cancelled again. Now they moved in August. I'm a keyworker and this has been very stressful

I learned in a diesel and your videos are great help. I got a my first car recently, a petrol, and I'm used to simply using the clutch to move off or stand still. I did an intensive course as well which was a lot of information to take in at once but on the first day my instructor asked me what I would do once I got in the car and I said "Clutch down, first gear, set gas, find bite" and she went "No, we won't need to set the gas, you just need to cover it and don't pay attention to the rev counter, we won't need it" I even asked if there was a difference between petrol and diesel cars and she told me there wasn't. Now that I got a petrol (that I like because it's quiet) I've stalled so many times I've taken a hit in terms of confidence. I know it's just a matter of setting the gas first but I still get confused. It's gonna work out obviously but I wish I'd known that sooner. Thanks for the videos, much appreciated

You are not alone. There are thousands of new drivers every year that are taught the same as you were. Then they have to relearn again in a petrol. You will get there, it’s just gonna take time. Safe driving

Great videos. My daughter has just started learning after her 17th birthday. She’s mastered clutch control in 2 sessions and has now, in her 4th lesson, changed into 4th and then back down to 2nd gear. She still has a habit of looking at the gear stick so I’ve set her a little exercise of rehearsing her gear changes on the drive with the engine off (note not lots of throttle as I don’t want to flood the engine 😂). I think sometimes we need to allow pupils to become familiar with the controls before exposing them to stressful conditions. What’s your thoughts?

What you are doing with your daughter is excellent. Lots of learners go through the stage of looking down at the gears. The other problem I have is to that I started my driving lessons on a diesel car and now I'm driving my dad's petrol car and I find it extremely difficult to move off 😭

Sometimes I'm a bit erratic with the clutch and other pedals but this has helped to show that sometimes less is more and there's not always the need for slamming the pedals down. Really helpful. Cheers.

Final bit of advice, England's driving lessons look like resuming from 12th April and driving test resuming from 22nd April. So there might be lots of driving test suddenly become available after 22nd April where driving instructors and students and decided to put back their driving test because they are not ready.
