Love this! It's exactly how I taught my young horse to trot under saddle when I started her. She didn't understand it was possible to trot having me on her back because I had spent too much time getting the walk and whoa. She LOVED this game and I never ever had trouble anymore getting her forward!! Love to see the change in this horse too

fantastic! Yes, always get 'whoa' first as your connection, calmness and safety feature. I love that you used this approach to teach forwards, too. It's such a lovely way for horses to enjoy ridden movement right from the start.

That was so cool to see how quickly this exercise motivated her, please post more clips from lessons of all sorts!

This is very clever training. I would love to see the progression with this horse and rider and this training as they start to move away from the targets. There are so many riders and mainly younger riders, that are so much more about getting to the fun cantering and jumping part of the ride and the lessons. Unfortunately there are instructors that are also more about getting to the more interesting part of the lessons when teaching younger riders and you see them concentrating more on cantering in half seat and going over trot poles and jumps and skipping over so much of the important Fundamentals for the rider in the horse and you end up with so much disconnection and horses that are being written up side down and from front to back and riders using too much hand on rain fundamentals for the rider and the horse and you end up with so much disconnection and horses that are being ridden upside down and from front to back and riders using too much hands.
