For the Stirges room problem. I’ve played DotMM and DMed it. Everytime players would open the door, see a bunch of sleeping stirges, close the door, have a little chat, then either run in with spirit guardian, fire ball, hunger of hadar if there’s a warlock, but either way, it dies in one round before ever waking up. My point is, a lot of the times combat can be avoided. That many stirges shouldn’t be seen as a combat encounter. It’s more of a puzzle + theming.

You’re very correct in balancing the encounters (like the manticores). There are enemies ahead that will just massacre the party, no problem. I think if someone wants a very deadly experience, it’s better to leave the enemies as they are in the module. This video gave me a lot to think about, thank you!

Our party had gotten very close to tpk territory multiple times (or at least 1 or 2 deaths), so yeah...
