Awesome pointers! To help with the visual improvement process, I like to use Figma's auto-layout feature for nearly everything. Combined with creating components for things like repeated elements like your boxes, it really helps speed up the process and guarantees clean & consistent spacing.

hi Aliena, I just started my journey in UI/UX, and since I am a self-learner I struggle a lot. but your channel really helped me from D-1 till now. I started my journey with your suggestion of a google course. it really helped a lot. And while designing, your figma tutorials are really a blessing to me. I learned a lot from it. I want more videos like this to help starters like me. And I also suggest you have more figma tutorials video. What you are doing is really amazing. You are like an Idol to me. Thanks, for helping us. It means a lot to US

I have a problem with my alignments. I always have to do it in a multiple of 8. It just feels better to me. I swear I'm not usually so particular, but 8s are my golden ratio. 😅
@AlienaCai2 жыл бұрын
Haha I feel you! I guess you are very sensitive to numbers. Though a multiple of 8 is definitely a special taste. I’m curious about your work and whether this decision creates something stunning and difference 😀😁

I've worked with google material 2.0, and used Google Color Tool, even it works ok, I don't understand system. For example I have Primary and Primary Dark colors, which logically can be used for buttons (Default and Hovered states) unfortunately, the dark color is not "Tasty", according to my research on default, hovered button color (for ex. Twitch) so the system is pretty old and made for old UI. Maybe I'm wrong. But the hovered color is need to be set up manually, based on the formula. Conclusion: the system of light, normal, dark colors is unreliable.

@AlienaCai2 жыл бұрын
I understand. I'm the same when I started out, because my native language is Chinese. I believe this will get better in time. When I interviewed at Google, my interviewer spoke worse English than I did. I've seen many people with international backgrounds working in tech without perfect English, so I believe we can make it as long as we improve every day 👍

But if I were you, I definitely would NOT put my design into 3D mock-ups. Such a terrible experience for portfolio reviewer!😅

I've heard of this that most people hiring or looking at your portfolio do not like mockups on a diagonal or not straight if that makes sense

@mvargasmoran2 жыл бұрын
if you give a developer that opacity crap you need to know that you are making life hell for someone. rest, sleep, think about it, then decide if care or not. I know for experience that designers don't care about other people, prove me wrong by working out what the 95% opacity is in HEX.
@AlienaCai2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. You mentioned a very good point when it comes to collaborating with SWEs. This video is made for new designers to quickly improve their portfolio, so I didn’t thought deep enough. I personally never use opacity in actual project, and thanks a lot for bringing that out. I’m sorry that designers make you feel that way. I’ve done front-end programming for one project and I totally understand that pain. I hope there will be better communication between designers and engineers to eliminate this kind of friction.
