How to Improve Time to First Byte (Faster WordPress Sites!)

Hi, just starting to get to grips with TTFB, you mention about unloading unused plugins and DB optimisation, but I thought server side files and databases were not directly part of TTFB? Im really struggling with a domain that has a TTFB for 5-6 seconds. I have other domains hosted on the same server (stored within subfolders of the servers root) which are seeing ~1second TTFB. Struggling to find why theres such a big difference :(
