Holding your breath stimulates the sympathetic nervous system. The SNS is responsible for speeding up the heart rate and contraction of blood vessels. --- This is one of the best 40 yard dash I have seen on KZbin

5th grader, probably true, 6'7 false, 92lbs false, bench 525 false, 40 is 1.2 false #1. You cant run about 10 yards per second #2. It's almost impossible to bench more than your weight #3. 6'7 and 92 lbs, your extremely underweight and in serious risk #4. Your in 5th grade, about 9 or 10 years of age? And your the size of an NFL Pro Linebacker, who benches world record weight, and if that's true, running a 40 with all of that muscle strength is gonna give you about a 5.4 or slower.

Your combination of sprinting and jogging is great for acceleration. I'm not quite sure why that wouldn't be working. But if you've heard of a workout called buildups, I do them all of the time in Track. They have increased my endurance exceptionally as well as my acceleration. Acceleration will increase when you do explosive drills right after workouts while your body is tired and built up with lactic acid, that is the best time to do that. If you don't know what a buildup is, I can tell you.

Thanks for the support! 8 m/s = 26.25 ft/s which is roughly 18 mph. So every tenth (0.10) of a second you are covering 2.625 ft and 2.625ft = 0.875 yard. My hands held apart inside my shoulders is approximately 0.750 yards (not 20cm or 6 inches). Your conclusion was that 80cm was worth a tenth. Well 80cm is 0.874891 yards. The error of my estimation was 14.0%. The video was not intended to calculate a 0.10 sec mathematically, just to help people get faster times!

@TheMadBlackGamer Yes, its called the balsamic breathing technique according to Joe Defranco. Get a big breath before you start, hold breath for first 10 yards, then release at 10 yards and get another breath at 20 yards and hold till finish. If you can't do the second part which requires practice, at least hold your breath for the first 10 yards.

@TheMadBlackGamer Hold 10 yards, release and get another breath at 20 yards and hold to finish...This is the balsamic breathing technique. It is used because of the same reasons people hold their breath when they are trying to get another rep on bench press. If you can't do the whole technique, at least hold for the first 10 yards, but if you practice, you can do it!

back in high school i could run a 4.4 in the 40. I weighed like 175-180 and was 6'4". now i'm 6'6" and 195 and it's been since 2006 that i was in h.s. and haven't tried the 40 until recently. the other day i tried it and got a 4.9. I'll try this vids technique and see what i can do. :)

@flyaires28 I have the same problem, but I'm finding that keeping my lower body strength in proportion with upper body is keeping me as fast, while allowing plyometrics, and speed drills, etc to get me quicker. Don't just work upper. Keep up lower body with squats, lunges, deadlifts, etc. Plus flexibility is key!

Continued... If you've never played sports and aren't radically tall, it sounds like you're probably obese. It's a scary term, but don't let it discourage you. Quite a few kids on my team went into football obese. They still did well, even though they had a few difficulties out of the gate. If you are obese, it's important to stay committed to the sport. Don't quit. It'll be hell at the beginning, but you should adjust swiftly.

Age is not at all (sports wise) pertinent to how much you should weigh. What we need to know is your height. Even then, it's hard to be sure unless we see you in person and know what you can do. BMI sometimes overestimates the amount of fat in a person if they have a particularly muscular build. Muscle is more dense than fat is, so the numbers have a lesser meaning. If you lose fat but gain muscle, it's entirely possible for you to gain weight while becoming thinner.
